The one thing I'm not crazy about at all-

Adjustable sights

Yes, I really don't care for them at all- unless on a 6 1/2" or longer tube- and then, I wish they were the style made before WW2 or like those of a Colt Officer's Model .38 Pre-War. Fine gold bead sights with a V-notch rear are where it's at- not the coarse ones typically supplied from the factory.

Fixed sighted frames are much more beautiful IMHO. I saw again today two guns that I really like- the new 629 with the fixed sight frame and short barrel. I just wish this was a "M&P 629" with a 4" barrel. I'd get it and have the gunsmith make one, but I'm not paying PC price for just the frame!

The other gun I saw was the Taurus 44C- a 5-shot .44 Magnum with a fixed rear sight. I wonder if a 4" barrel could be procured and make a hybrid of it. I really liked the price of this little gun much better.

Too bad they don't make a fixed sight standard price gun for me to gut.

Do not get a Taurus. After trying many over the last 25 years, I can say without hesitation that they are complete JUNK, because not a single one that I have had has ever worked. Not one. And their lifetime warranty is a joke.

Sorry you've had some bad luck over time, so far I haven't.

I've own several of the Rossi rifles and a couple of their revolvers and one .410 Taurus. Keep'n my fingers crossed.

I've had to send back two Rugers lately though- both Bisley .22's!

So...do you own like the fixed sight guns?

I like fixed sights fine, but I like adjustable sights better. I grew up in the 1970's reading Elmer Keith, so a Post-WWII 4" N-Frame with adjustable sights is what a revolver looks like to me. I appreciate other variations, and own several, but adjustable sights just seem right to me. Ruger flattops and 4" N-Frames keep me going to gun shows.

Sir, like Mr. No30, I grew up poring over catalogs full of Model 19s, 29s, 57s, etc., so the adjustable rear with Baughman ramp front looks "right" to me aesthetically.

Functionally, fixed sights have their place (I like them on service autos and snubbies, for example), but on a belt-sized revolver I prefer adjustables.

JMHO, FWIW.

FWIW I greatly prefer adjustable sights on my revolvers. I like trying to hit things at distances up to and past 100 yards. I can't see doing that with fixed sighted guns, at least I have never been able to. Fixed sights have their place on dedicated combat arms IMO.

I have a Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag on which I installed a gold dot front and a V-knoch rear. I really like them better that the original sights. On their website Ruger sells these and a set of colored front sights. As I recall they were rather inexpensive.

Personally, I have little use for a handgun with fixed sights once the barrel length gets over 2". You guys keep spending your money on the fixed sight models. That will eventually depress the price of the adjustable sight models to the point I can afford to fill out my collection.

The Rossi 720 5 shot .44 special is a great gun, if you can find one. Actually a bit smaller that the L frame 696.

The Rossi 720F (fixed site) is even more rare.

I watch the auctions as time permits, but geeze Louise they all seem to think that they're holdin' a pot of gold. I compare to the new 396NG that's sitting on $721 delivered + transfer and I'm back to square one. For the moment anyway. I'm still snoopin' 'round and if I run into a Rossi/Taurus that isn't beat up I'll have no issues in purchasing should they not be askin' a king's ransom...
Taurus supposedly made a non-ported 45 acp in a 5 rounder. Not Smith quality or warranty but the N frames are too large for my stubby fat fingers. Bet it would still be fun to shoot.
The bobbed hammer on the 720 should make for a slick draw.

I've never had a fixed sight gun that would hit to point of aim:

Colt Govt Model (1911) shoots 12" high at 25 yards.
Ruger GP100 4" shoots 8" low at 25 yards.
S&W 642 shoots 10" right at 25 yards.

I'm sticking with adjustable sights from now on.

Not always I had a model 17 22cal adjustable sites that would not hit the target at 25yds, and others too! I just picked up a Model 10-5 38spl. and this thing can print them together at 25 yds. this was my first fixed site revolver or pistol and I'm more than happy with it.
