Don't want to derail the cheesesteak thread.
I personally have a craving for a good Italian Beef sandwich. The only place in St. Louis to get one (that I know about) is a place called Chicago Taste and it's clear across town from me. Does anybody know of a place to get one in the southern area?
Maybe on The Hill? Dang, my mouth is watering.

I'm in Kirkwood and I make a pretty good one but I don't have any now - usually in the fall. I'll send you a PM when they are on the menu.

That would be great! I'm on the verge of trying to make my own.

Zia's

Howdy,
Zia's has a Italian beef, Italian sausage and pepper jack sandwich.I have never gotten anything at Zia's I didn't like
Bambino's, before they closed had the best.
Thanks
Mike

I was raised on cheesesteaks so I'm naturally biased. My friend was born and raised in Chicago and found a place here in Colorado that made them.He raved about them so I gave them a try.Was not impressed with that particular sandwich.

If the sandwich can't be made like the original sandwich you shouldn't be allowed to use the name when advertising. This applies to pizza, cheesesteaks and even cheesecakes. You expect that taste of home and are frequently disappointed.

Don't mind me! This is coming from someone who as a child went to school with dog biscuits in his pocket to snack on.

iTALIAN BEEF uses several spices in the au jus (gravy) , the thinly sliced beef is soaked in the gravy and then put on an Italian baguette. Sauteed bell peppers (any color) are piled on top of the beef. All in all it's a delicious, sloppy mess. Some people actually like the whole baguette soaked in the au jus. I'm surprised some of our Chicago members haven't chimed in on this since it originated in Chi Town.

Once at a resturant I wondered what "au jus" on the menu meant. My buddy bill never at a loss of words said, "It means aw jus a little bit!"
