Well almost, I bought this gun around 1975 or 6, there were 5 or 6 of us who got them all around the same time. We would get together and go to the local range. Well sooner or later the novelty wore off we all went our seperate ways.

I had five kids, by the mid 90's I hadn't used it for awhile and one afternoon I caught the kids (young teens) at the time trying to figure out how to get the trigger lock off. I panicked and sold it. The wife was adamant about not teaching them how to use it properly.

Well fast forward to about a month ago, thirteen or so years later I got the urge to get a gun and get back into it, kids are grown sounded like a plan. Was going to go with a small auto just for plinking, when in passing I asked a buddy of mine who knows the guy I sold to if still has it and ever uses it. Turns out he never fired the gun in all the time he had it.

Moral of the story is I bought it back, clean as a whistle and still in the same case as when I sold it to him. If someone has the time to take a look and tell me approximately what year and value it might have. If I remeber right I was the second owner and the person before me didn't have for more than 6 months which would make it 74 or 75? Are those Herret grips? 7K65xxx

Thanks in advance (newest member to this forum)Hope the pictures come out ok.

Mark,

Congratulations on getting your gun back and welcome to the forum!

I'd love to see pictures but all I am seeing are boxes with little red "X's" in them. Double check your links.

Best,
Kelly

How wonderful to get your "baby" back home again after so many years . . . especially since the other guy didn't even shoot it or use it!!!

Here's the Herrett-Stocks website.

As we say down in Georgia, "Yew DUN Goooood!"

Welcome! Nice entry with a good recovery story. That's a sweet looking 19. I like the Herretts. Enjoy that gun,

Jerry

Welcome. Nice mod 19 and nice Herrett Jordan grips.

Similar story but I cannot post a photo at this time. About 1975, I bought a blue Mod. 19 with a 2.5 inch barrel. It was carried extensively for about 2 years when I was an undercover narcotics officer. In 1981, several of us at the police dept. sent our guns back to S&W for refinishing. I had S&W change mine from blue to nickel. They did a fantastic job and the best that I can recall, the charge was $45.00. In Feb. 1983,I foolishly sold the 19. After a 2 year search, I located the person that I sold it to and yes, he still had it. After much negotiation, he agreed to a swap. Picked the old 19 up 3 weeks ago. It still looks like it did the day S&W returned it after the refinishing in 1981. The person I sold the 19 to claims to have shot it twice and based upon the condition of the gun, I agree. Needless to say, Christmas came early after 25 years and 8 months!

I have a couple of Model 19-3s. One has a 6K Serial Number and shipped in June of '76 - the month I purchased it new. The second one is an 8K Serial Number and shipped in October of '76 - the month I unpacked this one as part of a shipment for the SO I was working for at the time.

These guns were in very high demand and production was really "Flying" along trying to keep up with demand. So, my guess it your 7K gun shipped some time in between.

Appreciate the kind comments, now if I can only find the guy that I sold my red 68 Chevelle 396 SS to hmmmmm. Hehe.

As an aside the other gun in the house is a Remmington 1937 or 1939 octogon barrell 22 pump rifle. My mother used it when the folks moved out here in the mid 40's to shoot snakes and rabbits.

Thanks again

How great to get a gun back after it's been sold! I kick myself later about most of the guns I let go over the years. Only got two of them back, but it was a great feeling.

Great story. You must be very happy. I sure wish I could find the Belgium Browning BLR that I foolishly sold a few years back.
