I have a Model #66 six inch with Class A factory engraving. According to the letter, this revolver left the factory on July 18, 1980. The letter refers to this as a model 66 (no dash). The box is marked 66 (no dash). However... the gun is marked MOD. 66-1. Judging from the spacing, the size of the numeral and the depth of the stamp, the -1 appears to have been added later. Is this some sort of transition from a 66 to a 66-1?

Seems to me that going by the year it should've been a -1, since the 66-1 engineering change occurred in 1977. Does yours have the gas ring on the cylinder (-1) or on the yoke (no dash)?

I think that the factory just forgot to mark the -1 on the box.

Sending you a PM.
