It's BBQ Time Again

So, I was tooling around the Tulsa gun show a couple of weeks ago and spied a gun I could not get mind off of. So after a practically sleepless night, and a lot of dickering, I own it.


2nd Model 44 HE SN #36600 shipped February 1933. At some point in its life it was cut to 3 1/2" and had the front sight remounted. I like to think some old LEO had the work done to suit his needs. The gun appears to have spent a bit of time in a holster out in the elelments. From the blast shield back there is quite a bit of nickel loss (In part due to some DH going at it with a dremel) and quite a bit of pitting under the grips. From the blast shield forward the gun is fairly pristine with the bore and chambers perfect.


The gun had a pair of plastic stags on it when I first saw it. I changed them out for a set of bonded ivory magnas, but the look wasnt right. Through the generocity of another long time forum member I was able to add the steerhead pearls to complete the package.


I just happened to find the left hand holster in a junk box for $10.00 and a few tables later came across the Tex Shoemaker belt with matching belt keepers for $35.00.

I HATE going to Tulsa

No matter how much cash I bring I am always looking for an ATM machine

On my very first visit to Tulsa 13 years ago I found one of my BBQ guns as well.

It is not Factory, it was not done by a known Master, but I think is tasteful and it was priced right.

Complete, in the box, with all accessories

The only issue is that the seller had a matching 3" 624 and I had to go find an ATM to buy the second one. When I came back the next day I could not find the table

I am glad that I took the one I liked the best with me from the start

However I never get as lucky as you did finding a holster and belt all in the same outing

44 Special With Cut Barrel

Love the steer head grips. Nice 44! I found this one on GB a few years ago, also a Oklahoma shooter. Picked up the 4" holster a couple of weeks ago at a gun show from my favorite holster maker at a nice discount. Grips are from my grip box stash. I love my 44s.

Nice BBQ ya got there, 29aholic! Love the steer head stocks and short barrel. I need to find a set for my Wolf & Klar prewar .44 3rd model (see it here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-ha...prewar-44-3rd-returns-home.html#post140237976. This is my modified .44 3rd model transitional cut barrel aka " The pocket protector" with matching number magnas and vintage Tyler-T grip adapter.

That package is a great piece of history and it is still usable. Well done!
