Minus 14° F here this morning, it's been subzero for over a week. When is that global warming going to kick in? I want some palm trees...

it has been 15-19 here Caj, so done feel alone, when I walk around I hear 'jingle bells' and christmas is long gone!

You whiners need to come to sunny Florida and warm up. We have a whopping 33 degrees here right now in Orlando. I am afraid to go to the beach, there are probably a few Canadians swimming in the ocean.:D

31 in the lowcountry

and it is cold....brutal winter we are having....all three weeks of it...
Caj get some nice spicy crawdads and cold beer ...the best solution for the problem....MMMMM

that's not cold, that's almost spring. how much snow do you have on the ground? and you are right, it is a little funny. if we have a day of 30's in january, people here start putting on their shorts.

Its all about perspective. You folks up north may be laughing at us southerners right now. But for us its cold, DAMNED COLD!

Come on down here for a visit along about July or August. Then we can laugh at you for a while. :D

Having lived in cold places like N IL and Greenland, which had better insulated buildings and the prepared infrastructure to deal with roads and power in winter, I'll attest that cold in the south is much worse due to lack of those things. OK had to call out the National Guard to clear I44 in the last ice storm. Took 2 days even after that.

All the HVAC and plumbing people in town are working overtime on burst pipes and heating problems. House fires and injuries from makeshift heating disasters are a problem..

For the first time in my career I had sleet and flurries hitting the windshield of my patrol car around 9:30 this morning.

A couple of weeks ago I made my way to Home Depot and snagged three of the little radiator heaters. The new ones have a setting where they'll come on if it dips below freezing.

The well room got one, the w&d/bathroom & water heater received one as these are adjacent to the carport, yet not connected, as in walk through, to the living area and I replaced the older one in the house and retired it to a back bathroom.

I keep the furnace thermostat on 60 and evah little thing's a. o. k.

Cold can't last long Cajun...

W-O-W with all these 25+ degree days here in "The Sunny South" I think I'll break into a rolling sweat most anytime. I hates me some wintertime, anything below 60 and I'm cold.

I am near the gulf about 90 miles North of Tampa. We normally expect a couple of nights of hard freeze a year,(three or more hours below 27). Every three or four years we get a night down to 20 degrees. Usually the coldest weather is around the end of Jan. My previous record was 7 days with successive nights below freezing.
I keep track because it involves moving lots of plants etc.
We had two freezing nights in late Dec, one warm 34, and then we have been below freezing every night since. We are told to expect 17 tomorrow morning. We have icicles on the North roof Edge, first time yet.

I worked with an old man who came from Michigan. I'd say something about it being cold and he'd look at me hard and say "Son, this is picnic weather!":D

Aloha,

It's in the high 60s. Kinda "cold" for us here in Hawaii.

Snow on the 13,000+ foot volcanos....

Got my little $20 heater from Wal-Mart on warming up the air as it comes in from the louvered windows(never close completely, breeze Always gets thru)

Can't wait to hear from our Minnesota friends, they're due here in 3 days.

Got cussed out one year when I couldn't understand how a snow blower works.....

Wife says, "Minnesota, it's a great place to be FROM".

We finally got the furnace at the ranch replaced yesterday. It's been out since the night before Christmas.

Been a mite chilly there off and on. Down to 17 below a few times.
Good thing we got it fixed when we did. We wuz down to only 3 days of old fence posts left to burn in the wood stove.

Ah the joys of ranchin' on the high lonesome!!

A balmy 0 degrees at the moment. Now lets flash back two days when it was -25 when I left for work thursday morning. Checked out my truck at work and proceeded to drive to work site and about 10 miles from destination my fuel gelled up after futile attempts we towed it 2 miles back to a farm tractor maintenence shop and left it there over night inside. Woke up to -32 temps yesterday and even with the heater blasting, my feet were getting numbon the way to work. The fuel thawed out and they were able to start it and run antigel stuff through the fuel system. I hope this is our last severe cold spell. I can deal with subzero temps but the dangerous temps really suck.

Try to stay warm everyone and don't forget to pack a winter survival kit and keep it ready in your transportation.
