It's Cold

-7 with a wind chill of -22.. Little bit brisk out there shovelin' the drive way this mornin'.. Nice mornin' actually.

-2, wind chill -20. Winter is here. Last week it was raining, bet I don't see that again until April. Went in garage for a smoke and had to wear a coat, brrrrr.

It's 10 degrees here, prolly a little less with the wind chill.

However, I am starting the grill in about an hour for steaks and going to make my version of 'steak tacos'. Grilling em' low and slow for about two hours with hickory and saturated chips so they get plenty of smoke. Once done on the grill, going to put them in cast iron pans super hot for about a min. Then, cut them up and have steak tacos tonight for supper around 4:30 PM.

It's cold, but not cold enough to walk away from good cookin'. :)

It's not too bad right now. It got down to 3 degrees last night, but has warmed up to a balmy 12 degrees. It's supposed to be -6 tonight. Oh well. Still not as bad as the -20 of last year.

I don't have a Mr. Buddy, but have this instead. Time to put another log on the fire.:D

I'm also from Hawaii, but now live in fabulous Las Vegas, NV. I
called one of my sisters who lives in Kailua, Oahu on Christmas
day. She was talking about how cold is got there; temps in
the low 60's. I had to laugh as I spent Christmas in Cedar City,
Utah where we got a white Christmas, and the temps were in
the mid-20's. Oh well, everything is relative, I guess. :D

With no wind and the sun out it might get up to 22 degrees here in Reno.

NOT...........

Wind blowing and snow flying.............
Good day to stay inside but I did go out and feed the birds, first.

I grew up in Kailua, but move up to Portland in '97. I've spent most my working life being outdoors (carpenter, contractor) and I was really in fear of my first winter here in Oregon. I probably bought every kind of glove known to man in a somewhat fruitless effort to keep my hands warm. Lets just say it was a steep learning curve. ;)

One of the guys I worked with then never, ever wore gloves. I'd watch him handling frozen lumber and just couldn't believe that he could do that, and still be able to handle his tools, nails and screws, etc. When I asked him about it he said, "Yeah, my hands hurt, but only for the first hour or two..."

Funny thing was, when the weather warmed up he just could not tolerate temps above 70 degrees. He had a hard time believing it when I told him that was jacket weather in Hawaii.

Aloha to the keiki o' ka'aina :)

ETA, only 28 degrees here right now, wind chill at 17. Not bad, if you're not out in it ;)

When I got up this morning at 0800hr it was -9 with no wind. at 1500hr it was 18 degree -14 with wind chill. and winter is just starting. I may need to put on my long pants and zip my hoody. It sure cools the coffee to drinkable in short order.

We are expecting a dusting of snow here tonight/tomorrow. Should make the roads interesting. I'll probably get up, check out the traffic lovely and if she says chaos reigns, stay home. I've done all I can usefully do at the salt mines until next week anyway. Might just stay home and watch some college football.

42 degrees here in Eagle River Alaska this evening. The jet stream has been the same all winter so far for us...Hawaiian breezes.

This is our second round of winter. We already had it once in early November, followed by a couple weeks of warmish (30's) weather. Last week it rained and turned the snowpack on the dirt roads into about an inch of glare ice. One morning, the bus I was driving lost traction on a slippery incline. When I applied the brakes, the bus just slid backwards down the slope.

I got her stopped and tried to back out onto the pavement, but the front end came around until I was crossways in the road. I only stopped sliding when I backed into a stop sign. the sign kept me from going further downhill, but the ice didn't afford enough traction to go back up. I got on the radio and they sent out a shop truck, but it was going to be a while, as there were buses stuck all over the county. I finally worked the back wheels onto a bare patch and was able to get enough headway to get out.

I can remember as a kid waiting for the school bus there in Eagle River and it was 15 below.:eek::o

But I gotta say, this damp cold in Western Washington is hard to get used to. Cuts right through ya!

Coldest I've ever been in was 60 below in Dead Horse, Alaska.

I made a slow left turn yesterday that tried to become a 180. The old instincts are still there, never left my lane, just kept on truckin [emoji5]
