Thought I would show some steps in getting Grips from Culinallc when buying pre-finished from a blank instead of getting a finished set.

Contact Culinallc describing what you are looking for, Jennifer will send blank photos to choose from

My Choice after further questions and being told that these will have some fiddleback in them

Blanks As Received

After wetting with alcohol to bring out the grain

After fitting them to my frame ( My frame is slightly off requiring me to fit them myself)

Photo from Jennifer showing them finished - prior to shipping

Actual Grips as Received They ended up a higher grade, Signature plus, Claro Walnut with Snakeskin Fiddleback

When you fit them to your frame what exactly did you do?

They all start out N-Frame size. John worked them down closer to K-Frame and sent them to me. I taped the Frame with electrical tape, placed the grips on and SLOWLY worked them down with various grits of abrasive paper. I also used a very sharp knife to carve a little in the contoured areas. When it was very close, I removed them and the tape then worked the grips with sandpaper off the frame then tried them on, repeating until satisfied.
Go very slow, it's easy to take a leetle more off but awfully hard to put it back on if you go to far. This was my first time with this and I think I did pretty well. They're not perfect but that's on me.

After I was satisfied they went back to Culina for finishing.

Take a regular old #2 wooden lead pencil and get it very sharp. Then use fine sandpaper like 240-320 to flatten opposite sides of the point into a rounded chisel point with a sharp edge. Make several.

Put oversize grips on frame with no tape.
Draw a line tightly around the frame on the overhanging back of grips.
Take grips off, sand to middle of line. ;)

The pencil will not mark the gun. Any lead (graphite) on the gun can be wiped off with a finger or cloth.

that's one way to do it, another is to scribe a line in the inside of the grips with a pin or needle, if you can't see the line, it helps to use a silver metalic sharpie first so the line is more visible.

Forgot to mention, I used the sharp pencil method after getting them close and removing the tape. It's not hard and even with arthritis affecting my thumb joints I was able to do it. Just take it slow and easy.

I love Culina Grips, I have a set of N frame square butts for my
M27-2 6" and one for my M629-4 4" Mountain Gun in round to square.
That I love!

My only regret is that they don't offer Mesquite as one of their wood choices.
I guess my inner "Skeeter" shows through.

We are glad that you like the grips you have.

Mesquite is not easy to get in our area and cracks easily as it dries so best when hand selected. You are always welcome to send us a blank if you have access to the wood. Basic size requirement is 5.5"Lx3"Wx2"H. A photo of the wood beforehand helps too so John can check for small cracks.
