The Texas House approved changes made by conference committee late Sunday night and the Senate approved yesterday. HB 1927 is headed to Gov. Abbott for signature and will become law on September 1, 2021.

From a legal and political perspective I am delighted.
From a personal perspective I think it's dumb. I didn't do it before, with my LTC that permitted open carry, and I'm not going to do it now. Moreover, I'll be renewing my LTC when the time comes because it's worth more than this new statute, it eliminates NICS and I can carry in a host of states that this new statute doesn't help me with. Waste of time.
Open carry doesn't impress me much in the 21st century. It's a little reckless, it's sometimes oppressive to the uninitiated, never mind scary, and it tells people things I don't want them to know.
Concealed carry without a permit doesn't bother me in the slightest. Texans have been doing that for around 15 decades.

It's about both. Texas has open carry now but only for LTC holders. This bill allows both open and concealed carry without a permit.

Challenge? Necessary? I don't think carrying at all is necessary, but I am for the freedom for others to choose whether to carry, open, concealed, Its their choice. Its called freedom, and it is not for me or you to decide. I don't carry at all, my choice.

That is already legal here
yup, that segment of society is not going to change a bit because of this law. It does relieve a bit of the government stranglehold on decent folks
And much of the opposition to constitutional carry based on this reason comes from within, they make money on this training.

This is about constitutional carry not a debate between open and concealed carry. Where legal there are very few who open carry. It's about personal choice not logic.
