I've been hunting/collecting snakes since 1958, and have NEVER seen the courtship/combat dance in the wild. Whoever caught that on camera is very lucky indeed.
Ease off a bit there, tdan.
Your post makes me wonder how you "figure into the scheme of things"
You can make a point without getting obnoxious.
Bob, from the west plains (mostly Fishtrap west) over in to Grant County, there are various nesting areas. Lincoln County has bunches, and I have been told northern Spokane County does. As I recall, the Sprague rest area has a sign, or did at one time, about keeping pets and kids under direct hands on control as a result. There are also some pretty significant populations west of the Gorge in parts of Kittitas County.Originally posted by Bob R:
I live in pretty much "Snake Free" Country up here in Washington
(took out the story..)
Up until then I had never considered Washington snake country.

So, like I said, you can make a point without being obnoxious. It appears to be aimed at anyone who has ever "capped" a snake.Originally posted by tdan:

My reply is only aimed at the "shoot anything that moves" crowd...........not the naturalist that appreciates another of the Creators subjects in a natural setting.
Now where I work, we've got really smart people of almost every ethnic group, including redneck.
We had one good ole boy who was a senior vice president. Responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars of business.
He was driving around in his Suburban, before they were adopted by the mall assault troops, when he offended some city woman, who yelled something to him. Redneck may have been the only family friendly word, I don't know for sure.
At the next stop light, he got out and put his business card on her windshield.
Then there's the time on a business trip when some fine young gentleman tried to grab his briefcase. Said redneck's football reflexes kicked in, and said fine young gentleman became unconcious because of a forearm to the head.
Then there's the time when the corporate bass fishing club took some disadvantaged kids fishing. Redneck VP was told that the kid's parents said they would clean whatever he brought home because "white people can't catch fish."
Can you relate to being told TWICE not to be obnoxious?Originally posted by tdan:

You just said a lot about nothing. I'm talking about folks that lash out about ignorance and fear............killing any creature due to fear is simply ignorance.........sort of like making "Negroes" drink out of colored only water fountains..........That's an analogy perhaps you "folks" can relate to........Did I touch a nerve????........Only on the illiterate folks!

Can someone with more knowledge about snakes answer my question, Please? Are those very LARGE snakes? or is it just my primal emotions getting goose bumps looking at them? Nice pictures though. If those are males, are the females off to the side watching who wins?
