It's Spring in Texas and love is in the air!

I've been hunting/collecting snakes since 1958, and have NEVER seen the courtship/combat dance in the wild. Whoever caught that on camera is very lucky indeed.

Ease off a bit there, tdan.
Your post makes me wonder how you "figure into the scheme of things"
You can make a point without getting obnoxious.

My reply is only aimed at the "shoot anything that moves" crowd...........not the naturalist that appreciates another of the Creators subjects in a natural setting.

Bob, from the west plains (mostly Fishtrap west) over in to Grant County, there are various nesting areas. Lincoln County has bunches, and I have been told northern Spokane County does. As I recall, the Sprague rest area has a sign, or did at one time, about keeping pets and kids under direct hands on control as a result. There are also some pretty significant populations west of the Gorge in parts of Kittitas County.

Now where I work, we've got really smart people of almost every ethnic group, including redneck.

We had one good ole boy who was a senior vice president. Responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars of business.

He was driving around in his Suburban, before they were adopted by the mall assault troops, when he offended some city woman, who yelled something to him. Redneck may have been the only family friendly word, I don't know for sure.

At the next stop light, he got out and put his business card on her windshield.

Then there's the time on a business trip when some fine young gentleman tried to grab his briefcase. Said redneck's football reflexes kicked in, and said fine young gentleman became unconcious because of a forearm to the head.

Then there's the time when the corporate bass fishing club took some disadvantaged kids fishing. Redneck VP was told that the kid's parents said they would clean whatever he brought home because "white people can't catch fish."

67 crappie.

So while there may be some stupid dumb ass rednecks out there, the words don't automatically go together.

So, like I said, you can make a point without being obnoxious. It appears to be aimed at anyone who has ever "capped" a snake.

In their proper place, all of Gods creatures serve a purpose.
I don't yet know where that place would be for you.
Please find it and go there.
Best wishes

You just said a lot about nothing. I'm talking about folks that lash out about ignorance and fear............killing any creature due to fear is simply ignorance.........sort of like making "Negroes" drink out of colored only water fountains..........That's an analogy perhaps you "folks" can relate to........Did I touch a nerve????........Only on the illiterate folks!

tdan,
Bigots like you always touch a nerve with me, you seem to need to add an ethnic slur to make your point. If you don't think folks should shoot snakes, just say so.
The good folks you are talking to tonight are not illiterate, they are the folks I come here to learn from.

Can you relate to being told TWICE not to be obnoxious?
By the way, genius- the "illiterate folks" can't read your posts.

Tdan,
I'm with you on the disdain for people who kill a snake just because it's a snake and then brag about it. The thing is, I can argue my point without dropping into a childish fit of name calling. Did someone cross you today and you decide that it's time to boil off some steam. There aren't very many, if any, illiterate folks on this forum. If you can't speak without name calling, maybe you should just not speak.

Always hate to disturb two lovers so maybe I'll just take a nap!

Bob

Those are some great pictures. I like snakes, unless they get too close to the house or are around the tank when guests show up here at the house with their small children. No rattlesnakes here, but more than a few cottonmouths at times.

Now, we return to our normal programming.....

Awesome pictures Bob. Good to see you posting. Thanx for the consideration of putting all of these on the Forum for us to see.
I agree. Fabulous.

If I see those snakes out in the wide open spaces, they are safe from me. If I see them on my farm where I run my birddawgs, they are history. I "capped" one late last Fall stretched out on the bottom step to the back door of the farm house. I shot another one just about 10 yards from my dog pen. I don't shoot non-venomous snakes. I once had to relocate a hog-nosed snake that kept coming up on my Mama's porch and scaring her. Had to haul that rascal five miles. Just relocating him somewhere else on the 180 acres didn't keep him away.

I once had to relocate a non poisonous one on a weekend morning. That must have come up through the toilet, because he was having fun sliding around the bathroom floor. This was probably 2am on a Saturday or Sunday morning after I had drank a few.

Picked the little critter(about a foot long) up by his tail and went and tossed him outside. He just slid off.

Those are some wild pics!!!

It's hard to say how large the snakes are without much in the pictures to reference, but judging by the tire tracks, those appear to be some rather healthy specimens.

Can someone with more knowledge about snakes answer my question, Please? Are those very LARGE snakes? or is it just my primal emotions getting goose bumps looking at them? Nice pictures though. If those are males, are the females off to the side watching who wins?

Looking at the tire tracks to either side(as M28 pointed out) they look to be 5 - 6 ft long, or about the length of a side cross section of a vehicle. IOW, plenty big snakes. Of course if they are possibly ATV tracks narrow that to 4 - 6 ft depending on the vehicle, but still a good sized snake.
