which is a well-worn Model 37. As much as I hate to admit it, I've decided some sort of bottom feeder needs to take this chore on.

I'm trying to decide between a S&W shield and one of the "mini sized" Glocks. Other than brand loyalty, can anyone offer a suggestion?
Thanks all,
Old bear.

There are many fine choices in that category. All the Glocks. If it's a Shield get the Shield Plus. Any of the Sig 365's are good but I would be looking at the X or the XL if you don't care about maximum conceivability. The Springfield Helcat and Pro are both very good as well as the Canik Mete mc9. I have had or shot most of these. I sold my Shield 1-0. I am a lefty and I have been trying to go to guns with full ambi controls. The Canik has that. Go and handle them and or shoot them if there is a place where you can do that.

There are no good choices for a "car gun" if you mean a gun that you leave in your car 24/7/365. One should never leave a gun in a car if possible.

But if you need a somewhat inexpensive pistol to toss into your car whilst you are in it then the above recommendations will do, as will a Walther CCP M2.

CCP M2 + | Black | A Walther Arms Concealed Carry Firearm

(c) Walther Arms Inc. 2019

Cabela's has them presently between $450 and $500. I have the previous model; the M2 is similar but for the way it is taken apart, as I recollect. Great little guns!

I too struggle with the idea of a "car gun". Do you practice shooting from a moving vehicle? The car is your weapon when you are behind the wheel. If you leave the car, you will need your sidearm so just carry it all the time. What is the logic of a car gun? Maybe if you are a rancher and a varmint rifle is in the truck? Please educate me.

You didn't mention your desired caliber, but some of the best deals out there right now on the used market tend to be LE trade in M&P 40 Gen 1s, both the full sized and the compact model.

As departments have been replacing .40S&W pistols with 9MMs, there are a lot of inexpensive .40's out there, and they can generally be had significantly cheaper than their 9mm counterparts. That is also true of PD trade in Glocks.

While I feel very uncomfortable to leave a gun in the truck for any longer period of time, I would not opt for a subcompact in the case of a dedicated truck gun. I would rather limit the size to the best option to secure the gun, while driving and safe-storing when leaving the vehicle.

Instead, I carry a SIG Sauer P365 and when I drive it is in a holster secured on the right side of the center console and easily accessible. I only leave the gun in the vehicle if legalities prohibit carrying it.

To me, a car gun is something easier to access than my EDC at 4 O'clock when I'm buckled in. It's a Glock 23 in a small bag on the passenger seat. Doesn't stay in the car overnight even in my locked garage at the top of my 300 yard rural driveway. EDC and the 23 stay in the truck for the 10 minutes I'm in the Post Office or some other short-term no gun zone.

GT Distributors had Nice Glock 22 Gen 4's Today for $289.00 the ones I saw were in Very Good Condition

I've always had a truck gun. In fact, currently I have 2.

In the console is a beat up 6904. It is accurate and reliable and didn't cost much.

Bouncing around on the floorboards is a Stevens 325 30/30 bolt action. Same as above - cheap and reliable.

Both stay in the truck 24/7.

For a truck gun, I'd go with a mid sized Glock rather than one on the smaller ones if you have the space for it. A Glock 19 would make a great vehicle gun.
