Hey Guys/Gals

Sometimes I get tied of carrying my J frame around in my pocket and would just rather tuck inside my waistband. I have a cheap IWB holster that I use, but it's difficult to draw because it collapses over the cylinder instead of holding it's shape. Those of you who carry IWB what holster do you use ? Include a pic if you can.

Thanks,

A couple of years ago I ordered both a IWB and a pocket holster from Bob Mika. I've been very happy with both, and many forum members have spoken highly of his products.

I find my 940 is too uncomfortable (heavy) to carry in a pocket holster so I usually carry in an IWB holster. The one that I have found that is the best for me is the Bianchi Model 100 Professional. The spring clip is strong enough to hold the holster to the belt or waistband and the suede backing also prevents the holster from pulling out with the gun. A number of companies carry the Bianchi 100 holster including Cheaper Than Dirt ($38.17), Midway ($44.99), and Cabela's ($47.99).
P.S.-Don't get the cheaper suede Model 6; it won't hold up like the Model 100.

I've been happy with High Noon Holsters in the past and just ordered one for my 640-1. I should be getting it soon and will report how it works out.

Although the wait is typically long, the Milt Sparks "Summer Special" is an excellent choice. It also allows one-handed re-holstering, which may be important to you...

I used to be a huge fan of Milt Sparks stuff and quite a "holster snob" in general, but lately I've kinda toned it down a little and realized that stuff by Galco, Bianchi, DeSantis and Don Hume is just as good as stuff by Sparks, Alessi (RIP) and Del Fatti as far as usage is concerned.

If you wanna talk about good looks, then yeah...the custom guys always look better. Do they perform better? I don't think so. Not good enough to pay twice as much for it and wait half a year (sometimes longer) for their product.

I've always been a Galco fan. Their stuff is just about the best there is and it's not too overpriced. Granted, it's a little more than Don Hume or DeSantis, but with those two companies, you're kinda hit and miss on whether or not your belt is gonna fit. When Galco says 1.75" or 1.5" you can bet yer boots, it's gonna fit that width of belt. With Hume and DeSantis, they say it will fit up to a 1.75" wide belt, but it takes a come-along and 15 kindergarteners to get it on that wide of a belt.

Anyway...

Hume makes an excellent IWB with their model H715 with the belt loops. I never did trust those metal clips. It would hella suck to need your weapon and draw it with the holster still attached.

I've got to say that I really like my Southern Sidekick by Ryan Grizzle.
Holsters by RGrizzle

It rides comfortably, is tuckable, and allows for easy re-holstering. What's not to love about it?!

I guess I am a holster snob. I used a couple of Bianchis over the years and they just were not comfortable or concealable, mostly they just were not in the right position and did not fit the belt. They were for a 1.75 inch belt, I don't wear one that wide.

I really prefer a holster from Milt Sparks or Mitch Rosen. I love Rosen's ARG holster for IWB use. I have a couple and want more for all my guns. I have a Rosen Workman holster for my SP101 and just don't like it. It carries too vertical, I want more tilt. Angle is more of a personal preference thing though.

You definetly want a holster made specifically for your gun and for IWB it should also have a metal reinforcement so it does not collapse on draw. The holster should also be fit to a specific size belt. If the belt is narrower than the slot it will allow the holster to tilt around.

Sometimes you can score a used holster in the classified section of forums. A few places stock Sparks and Rosen stuff although they then charge more for their holsters. I think Rosens lead time is much shorter than Sparks.

Hi, my name is Mike and I am a recovering Holster snob.
I carry my J Frame in a Brommeland clip on it is easy on and off and fairly comfortable. I sold the TT for some reason I don't remember, wish I hadn't though.

Here's my HBE Com3 and 442. Did a slight modification and swapped the front leather loop with a BladeTech Tek-Lok, which keeps it firmly in-place.

#1 on the Don Hume. I like the fact that it rides a bit higher in the waistband, which is more comfortable (to me) when carrying in the 1 o'clock or 2 o'clock positions. However, I also should say that I have an Andrews McDaniel II on order, which I am very much looking forward to receiving (any day now), and which I expect will replace the Don Hume in most situations.

I bought a Galco IWB for my j frame. I have not had it very long but it is comfotable and conceals well. The gun was a little tight at first but a few of days in the holster and is now like butta.

You want the holster to hold the gun firmly for the obvious reason that gunfights often start out as handfights, and you want the gun to still be there when you need it. Not good to have the bad guy pick YOUR gun up off the floor.

More than that, some day you will need to drop trou for the crapper. You want the gun to stay in the holster WITHOUT belt tension while you do that, not fall out on the floor. Keep your pants up around your knees and nobody in the next stall can see or grab the gun.

With J Fames - I'm a minimalist and like the clip draw for AIWB carry. When properly used, your belt holds the J Frame in place very well. I've played basketball with some high-schoolers while wearing it an it held perfectly.

If I am going to a real holster, I can just as comfortably carry a Glock 26 or 19.

CW,

How about a tuckable IWB holster ('rough side out') from Tucker Gunleather? I love mine. It is very well made, fully adjustable (for tilt and height), and it is very comfy. It is clipped onto my Beltman.com belt and the sturdy belt makes a lot of difference (compared to a 'regular' belt).

I will try to post up some pics over the next day or two.

As a wannabe holster snob, I would like to try a Mitch Rosen and a Del Fatti holster. A guy's gotta dream...

HTH,

Chris

I have tried a few different IWB's, but ended up using a Allen's Gun Glove bought off of eBay. It's very light
and I like the offset clip to help concealment. Plus it clips securely to my Galco gun belt. The perfect holster
is a very personal thing. Different strokes for different folks....;)

I think this is one of those threads where you could get a whole lotta replys. I wear my 36 no dash 3" IWB with no holster. But I had to stone the left side of the hammer spur. It was eatin my belly.
