Good day all! I am a newbie to the firearms world and I am going to be purchasing my first pistol within the next month or so. I have decided to go with the Shield 9mm. I have seen many posts and reviews of IWB Tuckable holsters, but im still going to ask for yall's opinion for the best. I'm leaning towards the Alien gear due to price point, i'm also interested in the Crossbreed and Theis. I do have a budget and would like to stay under $100 Whats yalls take?? Im 5'5 abt 170 lbs.

Theis single clip w/premium leather upgrade gives you comfort, quality and multiple carry locations...

The single clip is a versatile hybrid holster for IWB clipped to your pants and OWB clipped to your belt.

It's diminutive size makes it the perfect cover for the Shield when you just want to toss your pistol in a go bag and not worry about snagging the trigger or magazine release.

Seconds later it can be doing it's job as an IWB or OWB

you can order it to be compatible with popular lasers
and if you choose to dismount the laser for a period of time
the retention still works holding the pistol snugly...

Appendix carry IWB or
Appendix carry in my "fanny pack"
my Shield lives in its Theis

Edit: Price for laser model and premium leather $73

The most adjustable holster made Comp-tac Neutral. Will work from 4:30 fbi cant to a upfront . I carry at a 2:00 position with a reverse cant . Used the same holster for my older CC kahr tp40 and after hand surgery with my wifes soft shooting 9mm m&p core with just a kydex body change . No long wait for your holster ether !

RangeMaxx size 30 from Bass Pro.

Soft Nylon interior, switch the metal clip from left to right, IWB, OWB. Velcro strap under the beaver tail or over the back of the slide. $16 while you find out what high quality holster you want to carry.

Will not fit a trigger guard laser.

First WELCOME to the group. Great crew here so ask away!
I to am going to grab a Shield! I will be using the Alien Gear IWB and OWB . I use them for my RUGER SR9E. FYI look at their 2fer deal and grab a IWB and OWB for a little extra $$$
The other choices mentioned are also good. But for the $$$ the A.G. is a good deal. You can adjust the height and angle with the A.G. as well, May I suggest that you also look into a Defense class at your LGS for the extra training? A lot of good info

The whole "tuckable" thing is SO over-rated.

Buy the highest quality IWB holster that you can afford and use the sturdiest belt you can find.

If you can fold the belt in half vertically it is NOT sturdy enough.

I'm 5'-11" & 165lbs. I use the Shield 40 in a Alien gear cloak tuck 2 holster. I bought the 2 holster combo & a spare shell for my Kahr CW40, price including shipping was $73 and from placing my order online to my mailbox was 3 weeks. It is very comfortable while sitting & standing/walking all day & on my body frame completely disappears even in cargo shorts and a Tee-shirt.

I have a Bianchi Model 135 Suppression IWB holster for my Shield 40 and also one for my M&P40c and really like them. They have a mesh covered backing that is very comfortable against your skin.

I have to tuck my shirt in at times so "The whole "tuckable" thing is SO over-rated" statement previously made is definitely not over-rated in my case. When I have to tuck mine I'm usually wearing a Polo shirt and blouse it a bit to help with concealment.

The Bianchi has black C-clips that the belt slides through and holds the holster securely and if you're wearing a black gun-belt they virtually disappear on it. I wear it in the 3 - 3:30 position on my belt.

It is also reasonably priced between $50-$60.

Sorry for the stupid question as I am truly new to this world, but LGS? I do plan on taking several defensive classes to aid in my use of the weapon and solidify my handing.****nevermind, I got it!! LOL!!

I have seen and researched on AG, particularly on the combo they offer. I too am very interested in this concept. The only thing that is bothering me is that I have read that the OWB belt loops are not as sturdy and loops are somewhat narrow. Other than that, the AG line looks promising.

Alien Gear holsters are very comfortable and reasonably priced. I only have experience with the IWB, but I do like it.
However, my EDC is a Rubicon Tactical all kydex. Very minimal in design and extremely light weight. Right in the $40 range.
The most important thing in your setup is the belt though. I'd recommend Wilderness Tactical 5 stitch or the Chinese version 5.11 tactical. Both are around $50.
I too have to tuck my Polo shirt for work everyday and the Shield in the Rubicon just disappears.
Welcome to the forum. There's a lot of info to be had here. Enjoy!

Gjc2128, I know you are looking at IWB, and I understand the attraction. I've owned several "tuckable" IWBs, including an Alien Gear and a Bianchi for my Shield. Maybe (probably) it is me, but getting a "tuckale" holster "tucked" so it doesn't look like I've got a gun under there or was drunk while dressing is very difficult.

So, going "untucked" leaves the issue that no matter what holster you use, there is a 'lump' there along the beltline and whatever shirt covers it needs to be loose enough not to print constantly.

With this in mind, and recalling the Shield's short barrel, I find that an On Waist Band holster conceals about as well as an In Waist Band. A classic pancake holester that rides fairly high can conceal under a shirt-tail and is (for me at least) far more comfortable than any IWB I've tried.

Nobody (I truly believe) ever buys just one concealment holster and actually uses it constantly for years. Get your IWB, but a little later recall this post and give a OWB pancake a try. Any time you can wear a sport coat, carrying IWB is just unnecessary discomfort.

Awesome advice! Thank you! As I look into this the more I understand. I do like the option to carry tucked or un-tucked. Living in Texas it gets hot and humid down here. I would be wearing it mostly un-tucked. But having that option to wear it tucked is appealing. If the "CFO" of the house (the wife) will allow me, I hope to get both styles and see what works best for me. Thanks again!

I have both the OWB & IWB holsters as seen in my pic above. When I carry, I use the IWB holster, it is very concealable & comfty. The OWB holster is used weekly at our local IDPA matches. Both holsters are very comfortable & sturdy when used with the appropiate belt... I must stress that. A lot of guys go out & spend big bucks on a carry pistol, a few bucks less on a holster and many dont even spend when it comes to belts, they just use whatever belt they already may have in the closet. Nope. Go out & buy a good sturdy belt designed for holster duty. It will make a big difference. The belt I use cost me 23 bucks over at my local Academy, its a reversible (one side is tan the other side is black) polyester belt made by 5.11 tactical.
