Ok, J Frame aficionados ...
Does anyone know as to why Smith & Wesson added the Lanyard Pin to the J Frame Snub? Was there a specific reason and purpose for this? Also, has anyone used a lanyard on their J Frame?

It is not on all J frames. On those that have it, perhaps installed for a specific contract that required it then kept for regular production. Or maybe just because it looks tacticool... ;)

S&W provided the lanyard pin on many of the AirLite's (317, 340, 342, 360 and I'm sure other models). The extra CNC machining reduced weight and the tiny pin cost them very little and provided an additional selling feature. There's also a lanyard pin on my 296Ti and PC 327, so it wasn't just done on J frames.

I always figured the intent was to hang the gun on a neck lanyard under a shirt or jacket.

It would be nice to know if there was a special purpose or known use with regard to the built in lanyard loop.

Just my guess, but probably correct.

Thanks Kevin!

Lanyard pin was a new one for me. Thank you all for posting photos to further my education. I had no idea what was being referenced.

I thought I was the only old guy here that had no idea what this thread was about. My head is in the older J frames! When I read "lanyard" on a J frame I thought about one of these!

The guns that I own that have the lanyard pins are all Airlite guns.
I've always assumed that the guns being so light meant they may fall out of a holster and you wouldn't notice.

(I've heard of this happening while people were riding four wheelers and horses. Expensive guns lost forever.)

I recently ordered a lanyard from Amazon.
It's got a coiled cord, like an old telephone, that can be attached to your belt at one end.
The other goes to the gun of course.
I don't know that I'll ever use it, but if I lost one of Airlite guns I'd be heartbroken.
