So I installed an Apex spring kit on my new 442 (http://smith-wessonforum.com/concealed-carry-self-defense/591115-quest-perfect-ccw.html) and after 50 flawless rounds, I am now getting at least 1 FTF every loaded cylinder. This is the 3rd apex kit I have used, and the first 2 have been perfect, for several years. I plan on calling apex today to talk to a tech. Could it be a defective spring? Possibly just my particular revolver? For now I reinstalled the factory springs and firing pin, and done some light polishing on the return block and the contact areas on the frame. Thoughts?

The hammers on J frame revolvers are pretty tiny so there is not a lot of mass. I guess S&W uses spring power to overcome this. Given this, I don't mess with J frame springs. My J frames are carry guns and I want them to go bang. I have adjusted springs on many other firearms with great success but not J frames.

I have installed Bullseye springs in J frames with good success, they're cheap so worth a try. I recently bought a Wolf spring kit for a Ruger Security Six and the main spring they sent was obviously wrong because it was about 30% longer than the factory spring.
