Hi,
I have a 342PD with CT LG-105 laser grips.

2 issues I would like to address.

1) My 2nd finger knuckle get's the **** beat out of it by the trigger guard.

2) I have a hard time keeping the laser actuated.
My hand just isn't shaped right I guess

I am wanting to get some info from Folks who have had the LG-105 and the LG-405 grips.

It seems the 405's cover more of the trigger guard and may help there. Do the 405's help with "knuckle bang"?

They also seem thicker front to back and I am wondering if this will help me keep the laser on?

I have the LG-405s on my 442. My 2nd finger never gets beat up (I have small hands) and yes, the 405s do seem to me they are thicker front to back as the 405s have a "pocket" between the frame and the grip which seems to absorb recoil. I really like mine!

I had a 405 on my 337ti.
+p full house .38 loads in an 11oz J frame still felt like a grenade going off.
A little better than a stock grip but still quite the handful.

1/4" Rubber Band

I put a 1/4" x 2" rubber band over my switch, it does not have enough tension to actitave, but the raised area over switch enables my hand to easily accomplish this 100%

I had an LG-405 on an older model 60 .38spcl. It provided good recoil protection but I never shot anything but standard pressure .38 in it as the gun is not rated +P. It still took a good hold to shoot comfortably as this grip is tiny. Never had the symptoms you described. Probably will sell it someday as I sold the 60. (actually just sold it today) I think you will have the same problem with either grip due to size.

I have an LG-305 on a 640. I like this much better than the LG-405 but you loose some concealability with the longer grip. It is fairly comfortable shooting up to hot +P+ .38's and light .357's that I make. It recoils like a ******* and has the knuckle busting with full house .357 which I've tried just once.

I have had the 305's and 405's on my 360PD. I settled on the 405's as the excel at controlling the stout recoil of the 11 oz revolver with 38 +P loads. No pain/banging around at all.

I have small to medium sized hands (size 7.0 surgical gloves, size medium regular gloves). I use LG-105 grips on my all steel J-frames (Model 649), and the LG-405 grips on my Air Weight J-frames (Models 38, 642, 638, 432) without any problems.

Regards,

Dave

I AGREE WITH mgriffin. IMHO--THE LG-405 IS THE PIC OF THE LITTER.....

MY 642-1, WITH LG-405, IS PICTURED BELOW.....

10% of the time, when I'll need to pocket carry my M&P 340 for several consecutive days... I'll use a LG-405 because it conceals very well, and the air pocket on the backstrap allows some degree of comfort with Speer Gold Dot 38 Special 135 grain. The rest of the time, I use a LG-350.

Backstrap is not a huge concern for me. But the 2nd finger area kills me at the trigger guard. Also I'm thinking the grip change may help with being able to keep the laser on.

I'm wondering why you need a laser on a J frame. I envision them as very short range weapons, say up to 10 yards. Do they really help? I've considered it but bought another J instead.

ITS NO PROBLEM IN A POCKET HOLSTER. IT DOESN'T PRINT, AND THE COVERED BACK STRAP IS BLACK RUBBER, THAT DRAWS NO ATTENTION.....

Mainly wondering about size and if the Rubberized finish makes it hard to get out of the pocket

I have Lasers on most of my handguns

But especially on the J for sure

1) Rapid low light target aquisition
2) Intimidation factor
3) Can hit a target without direct sight visulaization
4) But mostly, with that heavy DA only trigger, it really helps with trigger training, put the laser on the doorknob and pull the trigger. It's amazing how much that will help you

Lasers on handguns to me seem a no brainer

I have the LG-305, but I think the size is similar to the 405.

With the 305, my second finger fits tight between the grip and trigger guard. The recoil just pushes back against my finger. I get no slam.

I have a Colt 1917 in .45. There is a large gap between my finger and the trigger guard. That causes the recoil to slam the trigger guard into my finger - Ouch. Think of someone resting his fist on your chest and giving a push. Then he draws his fist back and slams it, making a punch instead of a push.

What I do on the Colt is insert the index finger of my support hand into that gap. Now the trigger guard pushes back instead of slamming back. You could try expermenting with that.

The 405 (and maybe 305) are probably a better fit for you.

I front pocket carry, how are the 405's for that?

The LG-405 and LG-105 models are the "boot grip" style. I almost exclusively pocket carry and both the LG-105 and LG-405 work well in this mode (DeSantis Nemesis pocket holsters, by the way). Per your other question, I've never had a problem with the LG-405 "sticking" in my pocket or interfering with withdrawal or presentation. If this is a major concern for you, the LG-105 might be better as they are smooth rather than "textured". Finally, I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the LG-305 grips are larger (longer) than the boot grip cut LG-105 and LG-405 grips. These are good if you intend to holster carry, rather than pocket carry the piece.

Regards,

Dave

PS - I added a photo showing the LG-105 grips (lower) on my Model 649, and the LG-405 grips (upper) on my Model 638-1.

PPS - okay, better photos added now - in both photos, the Model 638-1 with LG-405 grips is above the Model 649-0 with LG-105 grips.

For some reason I only get a thumbnail on that pic?
