So I thought it would be cool to start a post to talk about modern j-frames and how awesome they are. I'm soooo hooked. It's weird, because I'm pretty sure my 686 is the best gun I own, but I can't stop obsessing over J-Frames. I have a model 442, 60, and 638 (pic not included), but I want more... Ahhhh. I keep telling myself the next will be the last, but.... Anyway, to feed my obession, Anyone have some awesome pics of their J-Frames?

Interesting ,I got a 638-3 on a trade accidently . I didn't want it as I am into older S&Ws but I wanted to get the deal done anyway I ended up with this 1 year old J frame right . MIM parts I've read so much about ,lock I've read even more horrific stories about but it did have crimson trace grips but I had every intention if trading it on an older jframe at a local shop with me so far . Something kept nagging at me to at least fire it as tne previous owner had only shot 5 rounds thru it and traded it for an auto .So I take it out back ( I have a small 10o yard range behind the house as I live out in the sticks.I set up a target at 7 yards or 21 feet and fully expecting either the non forged triger to break off or the lock to lock up or the barel to just fall of as we all know these new revolvers just aren't up to standards right .Wrong very very wrong. I fire off 5 of my favorite 38 158 grain semiwadcutter target loads and think man I only hit tne target once .so I walk over and look close and sure enough 1 ragged hole .I think MIM parts ,lock, brand new ( well a year old and 5 rounds) but I think yea but what if I run some real ammo thru it . Well I have a box of Hornady CD that was thrown in as that is what the previous owner had fired the 5 rounds from . I set the target back to 50 feet tape up the hole and sit down at tne bench .I turn on the CT laser load up 5 Critcal Defense rounds and prepare for the worst as we all know these new revolvers aren't any good .I mean I read it online right .Wrong. Slow fire taking my time CT laser engaged ( will admit it was overcast in sunlight laser wouldn't be much use ) anyway 5 critical defense rounds and a quarter size hole ! So I load 5 more and then 5 more I keep on until I run out if CD rounds . Then I load in some Winchester 110 grain +Ps and have at in ( no I didn't clean it ) I put another cylinder full then another .Lock didn't lock up on its own ,trigger didn't break off ,MIM parts didn't fail .I took that little jewel in my shop and cleaned her up and got out a couple of comp 1 speed loaders and loaded up some 158 grain semiwadcutters but hotter than target loads and ran 50 as fast as I could load and reaload the speed loaders .Barel didn't fall off ,cylinder didnt melt ,frame didn't crack ,lock didn't lock up ,trigger didnt beark off and in short that little jewel worked and I'm keepin it and carry it .It is now my new stick in my pocket with a couple of comp 1 speed loaders gun . To put this in perspective until this little J frame my newest Smith and Wesson was my 1985 629 44 mag that I dearly love and ha e hunted with many years so there it is these new guns are good . I still love my old Smiths don't get me wrong but I'm no longer a no MIM parts .no lock snob .

You have a fine collection but that first one in the line ,wow

Thank you!

That's a 60-15 that I picked up a couple of years ago....it's the only NIB S&W that I own and came with OEM rubber grips plus the aftermarket ones shown in the photo...most of the rest of my modest collection are of the 1960's through 1980's vintage.

I purchased the 60-15 strictly for EDC and have not been disappointed. It has proven 100% reliable at the range and is extremely comfortable for IWB carry in a Milt Sparks VMII.

The 642 club | The High Road

This may actually be a bit more than you are asking. It's about the 642, but gets around to most other J-Frames.

When you get to page 201, it links to "The 642 Club Part 2", then eventually to Part 3, which still continues.

It took me almost three months to read it all. :D

You can easily become a "J Hound".

Mine are starting to show a little wear. That's all I've been carrying and shooting for a bunch of years now.

I have a few J Frames. I carry each of them from time to time. Whenever I am at home I either have a J Frame attached to me or my M66 2 1/2" barrel.
