I just picked up a M37 no dash that someone boogered up by trying to do a bobbed hammer/knurling on top of the stub they left. I've got a hammer out of a M36 and need to know if the hammer from a M36 is the same hammer as for the M37? They carry different parts numbers on S & W's parts web page.

Thanks,

The only difference between the 36 and 37 are what the frames are constructed of - the 36 steel and the 37 aluminum.
I would think they are the same. I've replaced the coiled hammer spring and the rebound spring in both my 36 and 37 and I can't remember any differences between the two except a difference in the main spring bottom cup. One was metal, one was plastic.
Check with Midway or Brownells and see if they have separate numbers for the hammers of the two guns for ones that are made in the same time period.
ETA According to Brownells, they are the same assembly for both the 36 and 37.

Thanks daa. "Bubba" tried to do a bobbed hammer with a hack saw and a Dremel. He got the hammer bobbed and almost did a decent job of it but them he decided to try to put some knurling on the top of the stub to give him some purchase when letting the hammer down. He did the knurling with a Dremel tool and a Dremel cut off wheel and cut into the top of the hammer nose and hammer nose rivet. Well, now I've got next weekends project all planned out, fit the hammer and take it for a test drive.

Thanks,
