I have a 642 that all the sudden the trigger started to act funny. I have a lighter rebound spring in it, but have fired several hundred rounds through it with out issue after the spring swap. The trigger acts like its bound up and hard to pull, and after the hammer drops the trigger wont reset or does so very slow.

I opened it up and it was dry so I lubed it but no help. I did notice that a spring in front of the trigger looked odd I dont know what it is called. It seems out of place but dont know how it should look. I pushed it back in and the trigger now seems normal but if I dry fire it a bunch of times the spring lifts back up.

here is a pic of that spring, what do you guys think?

That spring is miss positioned
and will give the symptom you describe. I've had a few come from the factory that way.

You need to get the spring edge off the frame. I try and get the ends on the backside, and use a toothpick to work it into place. Since the hammer spring is out you can cycle the action working the rebound spring against the cylinder stop spring till they're happy.

I buy my cylinder stop springs by the dozen.
