I have a model 642 with magna grips, and a BK grip adapter. I really want as set of Grashorn elk grips, but I don’t know how well they hold up to carry use. Just want know if they would hold up as well as wood. And since I’m here everyone might as well torture me with pictures of J frames with stag or elk grips.

Unless you are abusive to your firearms they will hold up just fine

I have several pairs of elk grips but non on a J frame. Mine all all on N frames. My edc has a pair of Pat’s magnas with a grip adapter. They have held up well for 15 years.

I have heard some folks refer to elk antler as being soft. I always ask, “Softer than what?” Watch when a pair of bull elk decide to determine who is bull of the meadow. The antlers take the brunt of the work.

They will hold up just fine. If not dropped or abused they will last as long as you want to look at them. Those Sambar stags posted are very nice but are getting very expensive. Elk is somewhat affordable and can look very nice.
Since we talking Grashorn elk stags here is my M19-3 with a set. So far so good.

Patrick made this set of elk antler stocks for my .44HE 3rd Model (Wolf & Klar 1926), and they're very very nice! However, I felt that the white stocks didn't match the age and use of the almost 100 year old revolver, so I dyed them to give them some patina. Just my personal choice. Elk antler stocks will hold up for a long long time. Get yourself some, you won't be disappointed!

Ask and you shall receive! Model 642-2 with Grashorn elk grips and a Tyler grip adaptor.

They will hold up as well as or better than hardwood grips of a comparable design. I have several sets of Grashorn grips, strangely not on revolvers, which I shall have to remedy.
