I am looking for a Model 36 w/ a 3" barrel and have seen a few for sale. But, my question is, since I cannot afford a new classic, will an older one handle +P ammo only for self defense ??? I would only practice with standard pressure ammo.
And what would be a fair price range ????
Thanks alot...

S&W advises that all steel-frame .38 Special revolvers with the model number stamped in the frame/crane cutout are safe to use with +P amunition.

"Fair price" varies considerably by area and collectibility of that model. I suggest you browse Guns America or some such online auction house to get a value comparison.

I have a 36-1 with 3" heavy-barrel.

I was under the impression that it is NOT +P rated.
