Jay and the Americans

When I first read your post I was thinking who the hell are these guys? After listening to their song on You-tube I was surprised I knew most of thier songs. ( These guys were big before I was born). I like thier songs and Jay reminds me of Roy Orbison and Chris Issak. What really impressed me was if you search through his songs they have some of his recent concerts and he's looking a bit long in the tooth but still sounds great! A+ thanks for the post.

I am surprised by the young people who enjoy the music of the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Our daughters and grandchildren know and sing a lot of the oldies. Rock and Roll is here to stay.

I always enjoyed Jay and the Americans - great music. I was fortunate to see him in person aout 5 or 6 years ago (sans the original Americans, but with a good back-up band), and, unlike most of his contemporaries, his voice actually improved! It was a very impressive performance. I always felt his music was underrated and not appreciated as much as it should have been.

I met Jay Black in 1969 at a concert at a small college. Saw him again a year or so ago (man how we've aged), he can still hit the high notes on Cara Mia

A few months back, I seen him on PBS, believe it was about 3 months ago, along with Lou Christie (extremely strong falsetto voice), but the king as far as I am concerned is Frankie Valley. No one can climb the scale like he can.

And after all these years he still has that vocal range. Try singing Cara Mia.

cara mia is my fav jay and the americans song. always thought he could have sung opera if he wanted to.
