IN 30 yrs as a Glazier, the best job I did was the City Center job in Las Vegas, in '08-10. 6 Hotel/Casinos, 60 stories. I worked on all of them at one time or another. I took some pics:

Thank you. That was definitely the "big leagues",,,lol 6 hotel/casinos, 50-60 stories each. Swing stages would only go 10 stories, so we had swing stages stacked on top of each other , with safety net in-between. Crews working 24/7. Had a death about every week, an injury every day. They started out working folsks 12 hr days, 6 days week, but with so many injuries, OSHA came in and put a stop to that. Top hours was 60. Folks were just dropping off the buildings. Every tool, every part, every PPE had to be tethered. ZERO tolerance for any safety violation, mistakes, being slow, or dropping anything off the building. Oh yeah, hurry up every chance you get....lol Turn around was huge- 50% folks didn't make it through the week, 20% didn't make it through the day. Gambling, drugs and alcohol- the City, took it's toll on more than the best.

I've always kind of wanted to go to Vegas, but I don't drink or gamble, so I'm not sure it would be worth my time.

We (I went out 1st and got a place, then the GF came out and we got married out there), lived there for over 2yrs and don't smoke or drink or gamble. Believe it or not, there' PLENTY to do and alot of it's free. We don't gamble, but LOVE the energy and lights and people at the casinos, so yes, you can go to the casinos and not drink or gamble. Almost every Casino has free shows you can attend, alot of free shows along the Strip, but better deals are off the Strip.Food is REAL cheap( cause they make their money from gamblers) No reason you can't have a GREAT time on a 3-4 day weekend getaway. The Casinos want to pick you up at the airport, take you ( by limo) to the hotel/casino and have you not leave, the whole time you're there, so they will offer GREAT deals( if you negotiate). They'll comp meals and even rooms ( stay 2-3, get 1 free) and give ya $100 in chips to play( nothing wrong with slingin' some slots). We spent alot of time up at Mnt Charleston, right outside of Vegas. They have hiking trails and a ski slopes at the top and real Indian Trading Post. You can camp out and everything. Real nice and it's 70deg up there, when it's 120deg on the floor. THAT'S the best part. We made out like a bandit, NObody wanted to work nights, I did(cooler at night and got 10% more pay) and we'd spend the days up at the Mnt. We made enough to buy this 10 acre homestead and pay cash...lol

Once in a lifetime opportunity. I was always like that...lol NO regrets. 1st time I ever snow skied was on My Fuji in Iwakuni Japan. I joined the Marines at 17 and wanted to see the World and try everything at least once and that's exactly what I did...lol Ultra lite, hang gliding, whitewater rafting, ride down the Grand Canyon on a donkey. Saw the Swallows at San Juan Capistrano and the Wales migrate at Baja. I learned to take alot of pics, cause I probably won't be through there again. Besides, folks don't believe alot of my stories anyway....lolo

Been so long since retirement that I'd almost forgot what I did. ;)

Did mechanical design, so until 1981 I was at drafting tables, and after 1981 at CAD terminals, like the one my friend here is sitting at.

Not really a job, more of a way to help make ends meet and make a little cigar money.

This was my fruit stand in the 70s and 80s. Busiest road in town and I was doing business about 3 ft from the right of way. :eek: :D

And this was my store and crew in the 90s. I still own the dirt and it's still a fruit stand/garden center but my part has been mailbox money since 97 and that's the way I like it. ;)

When I first started, I was scared to death of heights, but the Marines taught me to face my fears and it really boiled down to, if ya wanna get paid, ya gotta do it. You learn to trust the equipment and be safe. After 30 yrs, it's still exciting...lol

Ahh, leather. I used to work at a tack shop in Lexington, Ky and made bridles and halters and breeding equipment (KY still breeds the old fashioned way, so the mare wears a complete outfit, to protect her from the Stud), for some racing farms there.

Very cool, My Paternal family is from Leslie County (Hyden) , Ky. My Grandfather and his 4 brothers used to take produce up the the Cincinnati Farmer's mkt and they did so good they took the wheels off a train car and opened a produce stand, there, so i grew up around that too....lol

Very cool. On all projects, I love to watch the electricians work. Very fascinating. The only other cool trade is the elevator folks....lol

All my life people have wanted to hire me, but they all wanted to pay me what I was worth. Couldn't figure out how to live on that. So I went to work for the government, then I took an early retirement, then I went into business and learned what real work was all about.

I don't care, my stomach is getting queasy looking at your pics. They remind me of a couple projects I got on where I had to climb and walk steel, pre OSHA here, and one in another country where I had to go correct a problem that killed one man and maimed others. If I sit still and think about that one, I actually get nauseous about what I risked in my immortal youth.
Congratulations on toughing through it all and making good bucks for your future.

That's a lot of HUGE buildings. I was in design of construction and machinery. I always wanted to do a BIG job. I got the chance when I was on the team to build a new laboratory building for a large company. That cured me. One was enough.:D

PS Honestly those 2 years took a toll on my health.:confused:

Refineries and chemical manufacturing plants take a dim view of cameras inside manufacturing/process/control room areas so I have no pics. Only those in my head. If only I had a way to down load them to the 'puter....

I can guarantee you and my BIL were on the same jobs. He spent 30 years as an iron worker in Vegas tying rebar on althe major projects.
