I was in the auditorium at Battlefield Park Elementary with the rest of my fourth grade class and the rest of the school, watching it on ONE black and white TV.

You could have heard a pin drop.

The space race never captured my attention, but my father loved it, he got up in the middle of the night to watch John Glenn's launch. He showed little passion for anything, but this, I will always remember about him. Godspeed John Glenn.
