Speaking on the Today Show about his daughter's tragic death at the hands of a lone killer:

"In a free society, we will be subject to people like this, but I prefer this to the alternative."
John Green

John Green could have taken a page from the gun-grabber playbook and railed against the Second Amendment and blamed the gun instead of the killer. Instead, this suffering father acknowledged that even his own tragic loss isn't too high a price to pay for freedoms we enjoy as Americans. To display such strength and devotion to American's freedom and the American way of of life during such a tramatic time is a tribute to his character and love of country - especially when such grief often makes one seek to blame anything and everything for such terrible loss. Wow...

Mr Green displayed more restraint than I could have. He met the media with calmness and articulate communication. All this after losing a pretty, young intelligent daughter. He placed the blame squarely where it belongs.

I offer the man my respect and admiration as well as my sympathy.

His wife is also a class act.

yes that was good to hear those comments.

but I am wondering how he really feels about the memorial service.
I was in and out of the room during most of it. I didn't really have much of a problem with obama's part but I also try not to make too much of over analyzing it unlike the commentators who feel it necessary to tell us afterwards what we heard. I can only take so much of the "huh, no not what I heard or understood". so I try to ignore the commentary afterwards.

however,,,, I did hear the beginning of that indian's "prayer" (Chief Sobbing Cloud.. don't recall the name) and I had to walk out. I can only imagine what must have been going through the families heads during all of this. I'm sure they were all experiencing the "why are we putting up with this garbage" feeling. like anyone give a rat's tail about his family's persecution etc...

I know I must sound like quite the redneck and I don't mean to offend but I don't understand why we have to allow this and pretend there is any legitimacy to it? is it our fault we took over their lands because they refused to give up their primitive lifestyle? why does the govt give away valuable resources so they can open up a casino?

well I pretty much veered off the main course. sorry about that.

one day I should tell the story of olympia dukakis' Mother Earth performance I saw in boston in the early 80's. good grief, it was a small theater and the freak opened up to a question and answer session after the performance.

ok let me get my shower.

I wish the best to the families of all the victims and hope the perp pays with his life.
