John Wayne week!

It's John Wayne week on AMC, tonight it starts with El Dorado and Cahill U.S. Marshall and tomorrow night Rio Bravo.

I could watch Hatari all day! Love all the movies, especially the ones with Dean Martin. He and the Duke always put out great movies together.

I missed meeting Ben Johnson by a few minutes at a western store in Sedona, Arizona.

I missed a chance to meet John Wayne when I was in elementary school...my (expletives deleted) step-father had a restaurant; Mr. Wayne was filming a movie nearby, or was going to be in the area for some reason, and his reps asked if they could reserve the restaurant one evening for dinner, and close it to everyone else...of course dear old step-dad agreed. I wanted to meet him so bad, but my step-father said Mr. Wayne wouldn't want to be bothered. HE got to meet him, though.

I think that one is "The Sea Chase" Lana Turner was his co-star.

I stayed up past midnight and watched Cahill. I enjoyed the portrayals, but I had some issues with the writing. In the '70's and '80's the writers tended to portray 19 century characters with 20th century morality.

When I was posted over to Germany for 10 years I used to go on all the Voltsmarches in the area. One of my best ones and largest consumer of beer was in Zurich for the John Wayne march. Got myself a nice plate with the Duke holding his rifle. The Duke is know throughout the world Pilgrim

Duke also partied a lot in Germany. I stayed at Zum Rothen Ochsen--which is in Heidelberg-where he and many others stayed including Marilyn Monroe and many other notables. They have tow huge registers with thousands of famous persons signatures in them and the owner and I leafed through them both one night.

Had been a long time since I'd watched Cahill. Watched it last night.Wow...what atrocious writing! Duke was the only one who acted halfway seriously. I felt like I was watching an old Saturday morning kids show.

Walter Brennan has always been a favorite of mine as well. He was great in anything he was in. Im hoping that AMC will show: Stagecoach--hence my username.
