I like the 5" M&Ps...at one time I had over 20, all in .38. They're all gone now, except for this one. It's always been my favorite; I still shoot it weekly. It's one of those rare fixed-sight guns that shoot to point of aim with different loads. Mostly I use .38 factory wadcutters because I have a ton of them.
I bought it used; a somewhat battered police 4" trade-in. I took it to Harry Davis, master LAPD armorer, and had a 5" barrel installed. Harry tuned the action while checking the carry-up and endshake; it cost me lunch at the Academy cafe. It shot superbly with the free wadcutters I had access to when I worked the firearms unit.
This one shot so well I later had it factory refinished. It came back looking like a new revolver. A Tyler T-grip completed the package. I still thoroughly enjoy shooting this S&W; I wouldn't feel too sorry for myself if this was all I had to defend myself with. I think it's safe to say that it'll outshoot any modern plastic pistol.

Ready to take a trip in a nice lefty holster I had made for it
With another favorite, a 3" 10-8 HB
A great shooter with wadcutters at 25 yards
