Been meaning to get my Arizona hunting license for several years, just never got around to it. Never had a hunting license in my life and I don't plan on doing much hunting but...

There are millions of acres of State trust Land here in AZ and several hundred thousand of them surround the community in which I live. Now you cannot target shoot on State Trust Land but you can, with a license, hunt.

I went on line to the AZ Fish and Game site, filled out the application, verified my residency and plopped down my credit card for a one year General Hunting License to the tune of $37. I've been legally shooting at a site on the backside of Mt Lemon for 9 years but it is 24 miles away, the last 6 down a marginal dirt road. Having parted with my pick up 18 months ago when we traded our travel trailer in on a Class C motorhome I lack a suitable vehicle to get there.

Now, with my hunting license, I can drive a couple of miles and head out onto the adjacent State trust Lands and legally "hunt" rabbits" year round. I don't expect to hit any but being a lousy hunter is still legal and anticipate firing a lot of rounds (as I attempt to get better).

Not to mention that a portion of the license fees pays for habitat upkeep, which benefits game and non-game species of wildlife.

Buying a hunting (and fishing) license does a lot more to help wildlife than a year's membership to the Humane Society or the ASPCA.

Being a property owner in the State of Tennessee I'm not required to buy a state license to fish, hunt or trap on my own property. The only license/permit I have to buy is a federal "Duck" stamp.

Guess what. I still buy my annual Resident Sportsman License. The $135 goes a long way towards habitat management. And $135 is LOT cheaper than buying a basic resident hunt/fish license and adding on all of the supplemental licenses and permits.

About 40 years ago here in Colorado we could get the annual sportsmans' license good for fishing, small game, deer, elk, bear, mountain lion, and just about everything else, for $35.00 per year. Now every single big game license is available only via a lottery system, with half of all licenses reserved for out-of-state applicants (at enormous fees, of course). Annual small game and fishing license costs close to $50.00 now, and we have to purchase the "conservation certificate" to add the licenses to, as well as pay a surcharge to support search and rescue operations (although less than 2% of all S&R operations involve hunters or fishermen, while the vast majority support other sports such as cross-country skiers, hikers, mountain climbers, or others who are exempted from these charges). Full time resident tax-payers can expect to be successful in big game license drawings no more than one year in three, while non-residents have higher priority than tax-paying residents.

Just about every category of "varmint" has been reclassified as a game animal with license required, hunting seasons, bag limits, and limitations on methods of taking (including rattlesnakes, by the way).

One of these days I hope to move back to America. If anyone hears a rumor about where they hid my country at please let me know.

Bought my lifetime small game Hunt-Fish in KS, Mostly will hunt on my farm, but it was cheap at my age and I have it. Might fish in a public lake......

What a bunch we are. Hi speed geritol for the deer drivers and no doze for those on the stand or post. Giddy up deer.

Here in Ohio if You don't have a old License to turn in You have to take the Hunters safety course.
It's not a bad idea even if You have a old License.

Here in WV you can buy a lifetime hunting/fishing/trapping license if you are a resident. I bought mine back in 1997 for $300. I bought my newborn son his lifetime hunting/fishing/trapping license along with lifetime trout stamp for $365 back in 1999. He will never have to buy a hunting license in the state of WV. He will have to buy the extra stamps if he wants.

Back then i figured it took about 8 years to pay for itself. I guess I did the right thing. The cost of a lifetime license today is over $600.

In Kentucky we over-65 folks (or disabled people) pay five bucks a year for a license that covers fishing (including trout stamp), hunting (including deer tag), and trapping. The only thing not added is the federal waterfowl stamp.

One of the great bargains around, in a state that offers great hunting and fishing.

Turkey season right around the corner!

Not sure what's avalible in Arizona, if you can try turkey hunting. It's so fun talkin to those birds. Google Gooble!!!!
