Just got a pleasant surprise

Now that's a humble brag... I have found some small, low value items I'd forgotten about, and some more valuable ones I'd lost in the clutter her (still looking for a couple of those) but a high value gu? Not very likely! Or did you buy it on clearance when they were still new?

Unfortunately I did not buy it on clearance.:( I'm still happy that I have it.

This reminds me of the headline from my local newspaper from a few years back - "Unexpected Surprise". Think about that one a minute. :)

Congratulations on finding the gun. And consider making a database of your collection, you or someone may find it handy at some point in the future.

surprises

I was going thru my safes and trying to update which gun was in which safe and to my surprise I realized I had 3 Ruger flattop 44 specials and 3 24-3s in 44 special. I really like 44 special I just didn't realize I was picking up every one I saw for sale.

This is one of two possible scenarios as far as I can see, either you have way too many guns or you are getting senile! I can hide my own Easter Eggs on some days but have never forgotten that I owned a gun.

My boat motor requires a special size socket to get the propeller off. I bought one years ago and forgot I had it, so last winterizing's efforts required me to buy another. Now I have 2.

I forgot what I got for my 1970's Model 41 when I traded it for a 1976 Ruger Commemorative Blackhawk that I bought for deer hunting. When it came back to my memory it became my saddest S&W sale.

However, even though I have 2 safe's full of toys, I can't imagine forgetting about one I currently own.

Just this week I found a Mossberg 20 gauge in the back of my safe that I thought I had sold. I was kicking myself for selling it. It's a like new wood stock plain barrel. Sweet.

I do have a data base set up on my computer.

I'm not so sure about this… ;) I have a habit of going through the guns at the end of every year, checking to be sure they're in good shape, correct serial number, unloaded, etc. Last year this time I discovered a BSS 20 gauge that I had completely forgotten. It appeared in the records about ten years ago, then no further memory or acknowledgment of it until 2022. The only explanation I can think of is that I have two of them and must have looked at it and thought I'd already checked that one - and somehow done that consistently over the years. (They're both in the same safe and they both are kept in treated storage socks to help avoid safe rash.) Anyway, I was delighted to find I had an extra one! The senile thing, well, in my case I prefer to think that depends on who you talk to. I'm sure some of my acquaintances would agree, at least at times. :D

Lost & Found

Here in Flagstaff, we were blessed with a VERY good old school gunsmith. You didn't pay him to learn how to fix something, he already knew. One day I was digging in my stash and found several boxes of Winchester .25-20's. Made me think, why do I have these ? Fast forward several years. I helped build Edwin's new shop and helped move his old shop inventory to the new building. In loading inventory, I pulled out a Winchester Model 1892, full rifle in .25-20 with his repair tag hanging from it. It was dated 17 years ago with my name on it. He had a habit of putting things in a special place, to do special work on it for friends. He meant well, but just didn't follow through. I never told him, just took it home.

Happy New Year to All Terry
