Hi, this is my first post here and the first S&W I've ever owned. I've been into rifles my whole life, but never needed a handgun until recently when I changed jobs and started working in "the ghetto". Anyway, I haven't been to the range with it yet but so far I'm in love with it. My choices were Taurus PT-111, Taurus 24/7 C, Ruger LCP, and the Sigma. The Sigma just felt right and it was actually lighter than the Taurus compacts which kinda surprised me. I don't have my CCW yet, so I've just been carrying it in a seat holster in the car. Now I just need to get to the range!!

Let me know if I need a heads up on anything.

The biggest thing you have to watch out for is whiners crying about how hard the trigger is... girly men.

My wife shot this 7 yard target yesterday; she fired five rounds of Federal 165 HydraShok, from both a Glock 23 and an Allied Forces SW40VE.

The rounds she fired from the Sigma are highlighted in blue.

She was pretty happy with that...

and so was I.

Ignore about 90% of what you read about this gun- and just commit to mastering it. Grip, front sight, press straight back in one smooth continuous motion while keeping that sight on target. Repeat until it becomes second nature. Hits will result.

Welcome to the forum, the Sigma, Smith & Wesson & handguns!!:p
You made a great choice!

1st, I would suggest getting your rebate in the mail!
If you didn't get a rebate cupon with the gun you can go to S&W's site and print one!
They received my rebate on 8/20 & I got my two free mags on 9/15!
You can choose the $50 also, but the mags retail for about $36 each so its is the better deal! IMHO!:)

2nd, read over the owners manual! Get familar with the gun.
Give it a quick cleaning & lube the "lube spots"!

3rd, dry fire the thing a few thousand times until you get to take it to the range! As a safety step, make sure the gun is unloaded!!
Dry firing will get your finger used to the trigger!
You said you are familar with rifles!
The Sigma's trigger is a bit different than a rifle's!!

4th, form your own opinion on the Sigma!
Many people will try to influence your opinion!
IT IS YOUR GUN & YOUR OPINION!

Last but not least, ENJOY!!

My SW9VE has around 1200 problem free rounds through it in my 4 months of owning it!!!
I couldn't be happier with it!!

Let us know how the range trip goes!!

ChronicSPD, welcome to America's elite sigma club!

Quanah, excellent report!:)

Thanks for the Welcome!

Honestly, when reading reviews I didn't even wanna try the Sigma because of what was said about the trigger. The guy at Dunn's HIGHLY recommendedit and let me dry fire it a couple times, and it felt pretty good to me. It's no worse than the Taurus except the Taurus feels cheaper to me... kinda mushy. I've been dry firing the crap out of it, and the trigger has already smoothed out some. I did clean it, lube with Rem Oil and wipe off the excess. This is what I'm used to doing with rifles, so I don't know if there's a better way. I do have the rebate ready to go in the mail, but I'm choosing the $50 option. I don't think I'm gonna need 4 mags.

Don't be too sure you don't need 4 mags!

Once you get to the range with your Sigma, you're gonna find yourself going through ammo like it was beernuts on the bar. Having 4 loaded mags in your range bag will give you a good head-start on a fun hour. I would also heartily recommend the Uplula re-loader. When the clock is ticking on your range time, getting more ammo in the mags fast is important: you'd much rather be shooting than loading.

Do the math! :) LOL!

All kidding aside; practice and you'll see that the sigma is not only quite accurate, but a total blast to shoot!;)

I just got a Sigma SW9VE and I ain't happy. I cleaned and oiled it and went the next day to try a hundred rds. It exhibited FTL,FTF and FTE all in the first mag. The second mag ran a little better, the third some better yet, but this is poor behavior for a gun made by S&W. I concentrated on holding. (Not much help.) After about 70 rounds it was better. Out of 100 rounds I got only one mag load to complete without a failure
.
Now for the good stuff. The price is right. The grip is dandy. The heavy trigger pull is no biggie (after 3500 rounds with an airgun) The recoil is lighter than the .45 cal I used to qualify for concealed carry.

Somebody please tell me how to make this gun reliable.

Don't oil it much, polymer pistols don't like much lube at all. There are only like five points on it that the manual says to lightly lubricate.

What ammo were you shooting? It seems that a lot of people are of the opinion that the Sigma's prefer heavier bullet weight. I know mine functions best with 180 gr, and absolutely hates the 155gr stuff, will FTF almost every time. Stopped using that stuff and went back to the 180 and it's flawless.

That is very unusual for a Sigma. Sigmas run best when nearly dry-- is it possible you over lubricated it? Seriously, check the owners manual; it does not need much oil at all.

What ammo were you using?

If this persist, S&W will fix it.

That's funny, that's where I bought my SW40VE, lol... yeah, I like the guys behind the counter there, knowledgeable, don't talk down other brands and they have a perpetual sale running on Blazer brass 9mm and .40 FMJ, what's not to like? And yeah, I'm just south between I-55 and 61/67 in Festus. And I guess their address is Pevely, hard to tell where one town starts and the other one stops.

Very informative guys... The Sigma came out to $289.99 after the rebate. I also left with a box of Blazer Brass for $10.99. I'm just north of there in Imperial.

So, should I be using a dry lube on the Sigma instead of Rem Oil? The Rem Oil coats very light and I don't soak it.

Welcome to the forum!!

Glad to see more people injoying the Sigma. Good to see you saw the rebate. GREAT DEAL!!

I went with the 4 mags because I keep 2 loaded with my HP's for HD and the other 2 I use for the range. I rotate them every 6 months to keep them fresh and so they don't get mad at each other for having more range time. :)

The trigger smooths out and will only will get better over time.

Shoot and post often!!

.357 mag

The problem: frequent FTL,FTF and FTE in a new Sigma 9VE.
Ammo? That would be a good solution. I used Monarch 115gr brass.
When the rain quits I've a box of Remington 115gr brass to try.

I had no problem qualifying with a 45 cal. so I don''t think it's my grip.
I lubed according to the manual. Bad gun? I hope not.

Pretty much every semi-auto will experience some problems when new. Consider this a break-in period for probably the first 100-400 rounds or so. Your mileage may vary...

I made it out to my Dad's to do some shooting today. I only went through a box of 50, but I had ZERO malfunctions. I really like this handgun... I do need to get used to the trigger though. I shot from 15-20 yards, and all but one fell in the 8" square in the pic. I staged the trigger through about half of the box and the rest are just a swift pull with a few rapid fire shots.

There's a couple small holes from my little brother getting crazy with my 22LR... lol
