Hawaii, beautiful as it is, is not a gun friendly state. It doesn't recognize any other state's CHL licenses. It is a may-issue state. For years, there was only one CHL holder in the state- and that was the Honolulu Medical Examiner. If you go there you must leave your guns at home.

congratulations...Hawaii is a beautiful place to get married...my son did it last year and we had a blast...but from earlier posts it doesn't look like a good place to pack...funny thing is that Oahu is full of military bases and you would think a lot of those people would want to carry

Maybe it's me but I would no more want a "destination Wedding " than fly to the moon. It's like inviting the whole wedding party and guests on your honeymoon. My. wife's cousin's child got married in one of those destination weddings several years back. After totaling up the cost of passports, air fare and hotel expenses for our family of 5 to attend and finding out that it would run about 8 grand, We sent a nice present and stayed home. Hope you and your wife to be have lots of wealthy friends who can afford the trip-otherwise attendance might be a little sparse. I would re direct your wife to be to her hometown and save the destination just for the two of you.
Best of luck to you both-exciting time for both of you for sure.

I see you're in Texas. Have the wedding in your home town and honeymoon on the gulf coast.
I've never yet seen a wedding that wasn't a major PITA. EVERYTHING will go wrong and plans will change almost daily. No point in adding a long trip into the on coming disaster.

Do yourself and your future bride a big favor and keep it as simple as possible.

both of you go to vegas and have the wedding and honeymoon there. leave the crowd at home.

Hawaii is beautiful, but it is definitely not gun friendly. It is among the most restrictive states. Not cheap to get to either.

Florida Keys is a pretty good idea if you wanna take your gun along...

I like my guns but I don't think I would miss Hawaii just because they don't allow them, and it is pretty safe there. You could always hire bodyguards once you arrive if you feel you need protection.

Congrats!

Key West is a blast...for a few days. For a honeymoon, if maybe a week, I would do 3/4 days in KW followed by 3/4 days relaxing in Islamorada or Key Largo.

And they don't call it the Gunshine State without reason. :)

florida is gun friendly accepts conceal carry from many different states . Florida might be a whole lot cheaper to visit. Key West has alot of good diving ,snorkeling ,fishing, sailing adventures .fort jefferson by seaplane, rent car in miami and drive down driving through the keys is one of the most beautiful rides u could make in the U.S. HAVE FUN CONGRATS

I'm going through a drawn out expensive divorce.

I still strongly believe in marriage, but.... like bikers say, "Look Twice, Save A Life"

Some great financial advice posted above.

Congratulations! Advice from me, be smart and listen closely to what your mate says, even closer to what she doesn't say!

And the fiancé would like to do a destination wedding to Hawaii.... Is Hawaii gun friendly? Should I redirect her to Key West? What say you?

All of the above...You should go to Hawaii AND you should redirect your fiance to Key West.

That will insure you both have a most enjoyable vacation and pretty much eliminate the need for guns.:D:rolleyes:;)

Cheers!:)

I would say, Hawaii is the most restrictive gun state in the Union; this includes states of CA and NY. Its been that way for decades and entrenched in the local attitudes. Growing up, it was very rare to find a gun enthusiast; most have never fired a gun. Its like trying to find a winter coat there. Its just isn't in the culture.

On Oahu, there is no public hunting grounds for fireaarms use (as far as I know). There isn't enough public land or game species. The only sustainable game is wild pigs which people uses dogs and knives to hunt. Outlying Islands guns (long guns) are more common but handguns are still rare.

Let start by saying these are great ideas! I am of the belief that people should vote with there feet and their wallet. A little background is this is both of ours second marriage and are financially sound. We don't like the idea of family and friends honeymooning with us so the Key West/Key Largo idea is an interesting one!

First, Congratulations.

Key West is a party town. The rest of the Keys are pretty mellow. Cut through Big Pine to No Name Key to see our Key Deer. They don't get big but they sure are cute. Stop by the No Name Pub and enjoy a really good pizza with the locals. You can look all of this up online.

Added, You can look online for Key West live camera. You should see whats going for Halloween, look up Fantasy Fest.

Hawaii is an awful place to go for a wedding if you are flying out of Texas. I've been to Hawaii flying out of DFW three times and the flights to/from are just miserable. Miserable enough to actually offset the great time we had in Hawaii. I've sworn I'll never go back.

Heck, Disney World would be better for a wedding destination than Hawaii in my opinion.

Another recommendation would be Bermuda. Rates nearly as high on the enjoyment list as Hawaii and a whole lot closer.

RUN MAN, RUN!!! I went out with one of those she critters 33 years ago. It was JUST A DATE!!!

Wait, she's right behind me, isn't she? ARRRRRRRGH

Remember, the wedding is not for you. Stand wherever she tells you, do whatever your told. (Btw, your not gonna be one of these "modern" grooms who actually gets involved in these wedding plans, are you?)

Best decision we ever made was a destination elopement. Used the wedding chapel at one of the hotels in Lake Tahoe. Just me, the bride, my best friend/best man and his wife, bride's best friend/matron of honor and her husband. Rent-a-preacher and photographer arranged through the hotel.

Morning of the wedding bride and I took a drive around the lake (January, fresh snowfall from night before, absolutely beautiful). Stopped at Incline for a drink and little blackjack. Nice quiet ceremony in the afternoon, the six of us for dinner in the hotel restaurant.

The ONLY drama was the airline temporarily misplacing the luggage with the wedding dress. Mother-in-law threw a nice reception for us a couple months later here.

We didn't spend a lot of money and didn't have to deal with a lot of stress from family, etc. The only way to go, in my opinion.

Come to Florida. If you behave yourselves (don't get drunk and start firing into the air shouting "yee-ha!") you can bring your guns and pack most everywhere. Get a "non-resident" permit to be legal and read the rules booklet. Joe

Let's get Arik involved. He's one of the most thoughtful, romantic, and sentimental guys around, and I'm sure he'd have some good advice for young couples just starting out. He's like the Ann Landers of the Smith and Wesson Forum ;)

First, you must know that marriage is a trap. It's the only thing that starts with the dessert first!

Second, the second you say "I do", your guns become HER guns too.

Third, if you want a good honeymoon at very reasonable cost, think about Barbados, where the exchange rate is 2-to-1, and the citizens LOVE Americans. I'm not sure about the gun fun there, but my bride and I had much more important things to do than shoot inanimate objects!

What's the standard line around here........oh ya

"Pics or it didn't happen!"

I'm with CajunLawyer on this one......save yours and your families/friends money.......I've been invited to several and was best-man at one.

After the one in Calf. as best-man.......

I skipped the rest.....all were going to be a lot of my $$$$s to go on someone else's dream trip/vacation/ honeymoon.

Guess I've lived a sheltered life. I never heard of a destination wedding. In my day we went to the church got married came home and fed the stock and started popping little ones out.

But do to the internet if you believe what you read Haawhyee isn't to gun friendly but pretty, I stopped there once on my way to southeast Asia way back when. Only remember it was humid at the time. think I would do the Florida trip. But being the cheapskate as I am I'd stay home and buy something that I could put in a safe and pass on to the little critters when they get born.

Second marriage for me first lasted 20 years unhappy. Second been over 23 happy here.

And the fiancé would like to do a destination wedding to Hawaii.... Is Hawaii gun friendly? Should I redirect her to Key West? What say you?

First off,Is this a shotgun wedding? Why do you need to take your firearm? I've always heard they don't like mainlanders over there (just your money) but still no reason to carry.

Been to Hawaii (late 70's) and been to St.Thomas. Given the distance and cost St.Thomas was just as nice if not better. Unless you only expect to have just a best man and woman I wouldn't subject any more people to the hassles of traveling that far.It could drop the gift of crystal down to matching potholders.

Have your wedding wherever you want and refrain from the extra costs. You can then have the reception at your firing range when you come back (alcohol-free of course). I'm sure you would rather get some ammo as gifts than two or three toasters.

Congrats on your engagement!
