and am I impressed!
I've worn progressive bifocals for about 20 yrs now and have watched the prices get higher and higher - even with vision insurance and AARP discounts. The last single lens I got was over $200 and the optician said it was a bargain lens. LensCrafters was pushing $1,000. The last time I went to Costco I checked with them and they told me it would be $155. I said "per lens?" and they said no that was for a pair (no frames) and that I could reuse an old pair of my frames for $18.00.
I've had them for about a week now and find them to as good if not better than my previous lenses. I think they now have all my optical business.

I've been seeing the same ophthalmologist for about 20 years now, and she always recommends places like Wal-Mart or Costco for Rx glasses. She also said just to buy the reading glasses you can get in the drug stores, Wal-Mart, etc.

I've used Wal-Mart optical a few times, and I've been very pleased...and saved a LOT of money. The only bad experience I've ever had was with Sears optical...they just couldn't get the glasses right, and I finally gave up and got my money back.

Several consumer advocate groups have tested, and given Costco the "green light" for their optical wear. I'm really picky about my glassed, and have used Costco successfully for the past few years. I tried Wal Mart a few years ago, and they really messed my order up. One of the clerks told me that they had someone's incompetent brother-in-law in the Optical department, and they were losing lots of customers as a result of his "help". I switched to Costco and have been there ever since.

Regards,

Dave

I am in quality assurance ( aerospace parts) so I get a free eye exam each year as wee as free safety glasses. They go on my desk and get used if I go into an area of the shop that requires them.

For my personal glasses; I absolutely hate plastic lenses - no matter what they say or what material I manage to scratch them. I take my prescription and buy glass progressive lenses thru a local eye doctor ( who give me a more thorough exam every few years) and I get good flex (titanium memory metal) frames. do they cost more; yes but they are worth it to me. I have managed to sit on my glasses while woroing arount the house more than once, usually from taking them off when sweating and laying them down behind me. With the older frames it could ruin them but the flex frames can be straightened out with little or no harm done.

Also, it used to be that the glass lenses were cheaper or little more but now there is an extra charge as fewer places can or will make them. I have had eye care places (including the one my company contracts to) tell me thet they don't make then any longer or they are not legal to make (WRONG)

I have had the best of luck with Costco. I also use the flex frames so when I run into stuff it doesn't cut my nose.

My wife, who is very hard on glasses goes through at least 2 or 3 pair a year and she swears by Costco. I like them too since they are about half the price of the local optical stores and as far as I can tell of equal or better quality. On the RARE occasion there is a problem they treat her VERY WELL and rectify the problem immediately.

I'm due for new specs , and beeh thinking about having it done at Costco every time I go thru. You guys convinced me. Just gotta see if the accept my insurance (VSP).
