Man oh man!!! I am one happy camper, now I know why all you guys were falling all over yourselves about these rifles. My only problem is I don't know what makes me happier, my rifle or the great service from S&W, allow me to explain.
Here is a link to my thread about the initial issues I was having. That is old news.
I shipped the rifle off on 4-27-10 and got it back today, 5-10-10. Right at two weeks including transit time. Not to shabby if you ask me. The gun was returned in the same box with a copy of the repair order included. They stated to had repaired the following:
Repair: Replace springs as needed.
Repair: Update to latest specs.
Repair: Replace magazines.
After inspecting the gun it was obvious they had installed the blue springs. I don't know what else they tweaked to bring into current specs and I don't really care now after shooting it. The most impressive part of the service however was how they handled my one and only request.
Shortly after purchasing the rifle I actually found a couple magazines in stock at a local store so I snatched up two of them. After joining this sight I learned that my new mags were 1st gen. When I shipped my rifle in I sent all three mags with it asking for S&W to replace the older ones with 2nd gen mags. Here is where it gets good. I also asked them to include a fourth magazine to make up for my inconvenience. I didn't really expect them to do this and I wouldn't have been disappointed if they hadn't, but it never hurts to ask. Well, when I got the box today and opened it up, low and behold there were four 2nd gen mags in the box. Talk about customer service! I know you're thinking, "wow this guy is getting all excited over a twenty dollar mag?". Honestly, yes I am. To me, it's the small things that count and they really didn't have to do that so to me they really went above and beyond.
Enough of me being a fanboy, on to the range report. After getting the rifle I headed straight to the range. I had stocked up on CCI Mini-Mags and Win Super X's, 200 rounds of each, but they were all at home. I happened to have a fresh box of Fed bulk in my truck from my last Walmart visit, so off to the range I went. I loaded all four mags on the way, not even worrying about staggering the rounds. When I got to the range I put it through a torture test, I went through 300 rounds as fast as I could load the mags and empty them. It was exactly 100%. 300 for 300 without a single issue except sore thumbs from loading
. I think I have found my new favorite rifle. I can't wait to take it to my next Appleseed.
Hopefully you guys will find this encouraging, I felt somewhat obligated to let you guys know how everything turned out. It seems there are a lot of bad reviews (including mine) and I just wanted to let everyone know to have faith that S&W will make it right.
