...hammers and triggers that have been nickel plated by some previous owner I was talking with my favorite gunsmith and casually asked him if he knew anyone who could restore them. He said he can do it. He's done a lot of work for me over the past 30 years and I have been pretty happy with the results so I am curious to see how he does with this. He said it would be $45 each on the hammers, quite a deal it sounds to me. And he said the turn around would be 10-14 days. Wow.

I will give him three and let you know how they turn out as I think others may be interested in this service at this price.

Sax, sounds good for getting the nickel off, but won't you still need to restore the case coloring when he's done?

He says that's part of the deal. He claims it will look original when he's done. Sounds like he's done it before.

Can he do the same for the yahoo's that blue them too?

SP:

I look forward to seeing the results !

I have a "collection" of nickeled .38/44 Outdoorsman and a couple of 1926 .44s that could use a little help !

Did you ask him what process he uses to restore the case hardened look. I've seen heat used to approximate the case hardened "look" But that is very different then the case hardening process.

I assume that he will just approximate the look of case hardening. You won't get real case hardening for $45. This will serve my purpose on these shooter grade guns with poor overall refinishing. For a true restoration on a deluxe or rare gun you would want better than this.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I am one of those who hate to see nickel hammers and triggers.
