I just bought a 2" and a 4", both blued. They are exquisite machines.

Can anyone tell me when they were made? The 2" serial is D2304XX. It is a 10-5. The 4" tapered barrel serial is 8D001XX. It is a 10-7.

2" 1969/70 and the 4" 1971. Every S&W person should have a model 10style gun. I have my greatgranfather's .38 HE shipped in December 1924. You owe us pictures.

Thanks for the info. Indeed the pictures will come. I am awaiting the arrival of the 2", from a Gunbroker sale. The 4" was an impulse pawn shop purchase today.

I picked up the 2" from my FFL today. It has the tightest cylinder gap of any I've seen, at .0015.

It isn't stamped MOD 10 in the yoke. Is that unusual for a 1969/1970 model? What dash number should it be?

1969-70 would be a 10-5, my 6" 10-5 is a 1974 production.

Model 10's are great guns, and they tend to multiply.....I've got M&P's-M10's from the 40's right on up to my 10-14 made in 2003, and everywhere in between. Old and new, I love 'em all......some people like fancy, pretty guns, I like Model 10's, just a meat and potatoes working gun, with lots of style.

I've had my model 10 hb for over 20 years, a lot of handguns have past through my hands in that time but I just couldn't' ever give that one up.

I picked up my 1st. model 10 over a year ago. 4in, HB,RB. I won't part with this one anytime soon. Fun to shoot and it will handel the +P's all day. Have a banana grip on it and it feels right at home in by big paws. Have fun with it.

Here are the pics, as promised:

I must say I am somewhat disappointed with the accuracy of the 2". At 10 yards it grouped all over a paper plate. Single action, or double action, it didn't matter. I don't think it's me because at the same distance my DAO, 13 ounce M&P340 will group about 2 inches. Ammo used was 148 grain Mastercast wadcutters. The 4 incher was a tackdriver with this ammo.
