Greetings, I'm thinking I'd like to have a 1911.
I have just one handgun now it's a 4516-1 and I'm vry partial too it. I can come pretty close to hitting what I aim at and that's but as good as I'll probably ever be at my age. Also have my CCW, don't carry, but nice to have when you go hunting and carry then.

I keep looking at these 1911's I see from different manufacturers. I'd only consider a full size 5". I don't care too awful much abt price. So far I like S&W and Kimber.
What do you folks think?

Oh, boy...now you've started it!
I like my Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail 1911 (4.25") but I would also like a full-size one. I don't need one, but I'd sure like one.
If price isn't a consideration, go crazy and get a custom gun. Ed Brown makes a great 1911, as do others.

You first gotta decide what the gun is gonna be FOR YOU.(carry/target/plinkin etc....)

Ya just opened a can of worms from 400$ all the way to 4000$.

If money is a deciding factor, in general a kimber will cost you more than a S&W. Since you said it wasn't a major factor, it depends on the style you like. I like the look of the S&W models a little better than the kimber, but that is all personal taste.

Since this opinion is going to be worth every penny your about to pay for it?
Stick with a Government length pistol (5" barrel) in carbon or stainless steel construction on both frame and slide. Do dads are nice, but the basic JMB design is what your after. Leave the power windows and climate control for later. Good sights and a good trigger.
"Chrome don't get you home", the saying goes...

If price is no consideration as you say, then I'd go with Wilson Combat @ $2400'ish. If price is actually a bit of a concern, I'd go with a Les Baer at $1600'ish. If it's actually a significant concern, I'd go with Dan Wesson Valor at $1200'ish. If price will, in fact, drive your decision, I'd go with a SW1911 (steel frame/slide) for $800'ish.

Rabie,

The question has been asked, what do you want it for? You answered at the outset that you would just like to have one. That's valid. Everyone appreciates the 1911 because they are cool and they are also the original. For carry I don't recommend them but you said you weren't going to carry it.

So the next question to ask is if you want a 1911 for the reasons above, would you really be happy with a "knock-off", a non-original? Perhaps you should go for Colt or better yet a "retired" military sidearm. Just to make sure you don't second guess yourself after spending the money.

My only 1911 experience is with Colts. I have sold two for a minimal loss if resale matters to you.

A good Colt model that interest you is the XSE goverment, which I owned. From what I have read it is hand fitted with no mim parts. It is very accurate and 100% reliable. It was the only pistol I ever owned without any rattling or movement when I shaked it.

That is my small experience with 1911s.

Get a Les Baer Thunder Ranch for about $1700.
The Wilson is over-priced.
The Brown is over-rated.
The S&W is not a true 1911 - has an external extractor.
Kimbers are boutique guns.
