Hi Guys,
Just picked up my M&P 15-22 yesterday took it to the club tonight and was very pleased with it.

After a few shots to zero the scope it's spot on with 7 straight 100's

This is going to be a great gun to shoot, I have been a shooter for over 30 years.

Just wish ammo was as cheap in the UK as in the US

Regards
Michael

Welcome! Just curious, how much do you pay per round for .22 LR there?

Wow. Thirty pounds is close to $50 dollars US for federal bulk. I'm paying less than $20 for federal bulk.

Woah. Dang. ~$50 for Federal Bulk. Shooting imported ammo is expensive eh? ;)

I have a rather ignorant question. I've heard all sorts of crazy things about firearms ownership in the UK, and have no idea what is true and what isn't. The firearms rights advocates here in the U.S. keep on pointing across the pond at the UK as a scare tactic to illustrate what could happen on this side of the pond.

What's the process you have to go through to purchase a firearm? Ammo? Are there regulations for how the rifle is stored at your home?

How about semi-auto rifles? I heard some crazy things about UK having regulations that make it impossible to own anything but a single shot rifle.

JaPes,

In the uk you have to be a member of a club to get a firearms certificate or FAC as it is known, onece you are a member of a club it normally about 9 months to a year before it's issued.

you can own any bolt action rifle any cal, inc. .50 only .22 rifles in semi auto no auto pistols can own revolvers but they must have an overall length of 24 inches, most opt for a 12in barrel and a rod welded onto the grip.

firearms must be stored in a gun safe.

After a mass shooting in Scotland the labour party that won the election used getting rid of hand guns as a way of gaining votes in the general election so shooters had to hand in there guns, since the hand in gun crime got worse and it achieved nothing but to deny sport shooters their guns.

Ammo cost for .308 is about £30-00 for 100 rounds

Thank you for that insight, deallad. I suppose I am flirting with a forum rules violation here, but IMHO we should all keep in mind that getting votes is almost always the reason politicians do what they do. Whether it's moronic economic central planning or nutty 24-inch pistol requirements (anybody make a holster for those yet?), the consequences of the stuff dreamed up by these buffoons is nearly always the opposite of what was advertised.

A huge welcome aboard from across the pond! I thought I had a reason to complain about ammo prices. What is the cost to join a club? When I was in Maryland it was $279 12 years ago. I now live in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. I joined a club two weeks ago and it was $28 a year!

Our club is a great place very social and friendly cost per year £60 so about $100 plus range fees of £2-00 or $3 the members own the club so we set the fees.

can shoot pistol calibre rounds only, though we have a range we hire from the military and you can shoot upto .50 bmg
