Just picked up 1k of 38spl range brass...

Half of it is PMC, the rest is blazer brass, win, fed, r-p, and cbc.

I tumbled and sized/deprimed the pmc brass already and they look good.

Still have to finish cleaning the other cases.

I scored a pair of speer 158gr lrn boxes and I have a pound of w231 that needs using.

After I clean the primer pockets, these are all going to get loaded and boxed up.

$65 for the brass and $80 for the bullets. $19 for the powder last year and $30 for the primers.

Not too bsd for 1k rounds of quality plinker ammo.

Not bad, not bad. When you said "picked up" I thought you meant you
picked it up off the ground. 1K cases off the ground in one pick would
be some kind of haul all right. Still pretty good, if mostly once fired
you will have brass to load for a long time.

Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned! And at $.18 per round, not a bad initial investment either!

All other things being equal, your next 1000 (and the next, and the next...) will only cost $0.12!

We reloaders have been "Green" since before it was the cool thing to do - recycling brass one round at a time!

I wanted scratch brass I wouldn't mind leaving behind if I was pressed for time. And 4.1gr of w231 and the speer bullets are a pet load of mine. Easy to load and easy to shoot.

Just so happy I got a good deal on the lead. It's soft and is really easy on barrels.

I would dig through garbage to pick out good range brass now. It makes me sick that some years back I 'shrunk' my hobby and decided I didn't need all of that old brass....

I went through 300 rounds at my last pistol match. You cannot have too much 38 Special loaded up. I shoot Steel one month and Defensive Pistol the next. I load 158 Round Nose over 5.0 grains of Unique as my all purpose load. It Knocks over steel pretty well.
I have been working with Alliant 20/28 shotgun powder some lately. It seems to be doing ok. I need to do some accuracy and velocity testing. This may be a good alternative powder with Unique, 231, etc gone off the shelves.

Quite a bit of 20/28, e3, WST, etc still on the shelves. Just no handgun data for it.

I haven't started any loads, or even bought any powder, but I have been looking into that myself. It is my understanding that 20/28 burn rate is very close to Unique.

4.0 grains of 231 and the 158 lrn will work very well.

Finished up the first 400 and working on the next set. A quick range trip after the first box of 50 proved they were all dead on POA from my 627 and grouped nicely. Cleanup was quite uneventful.
