That is one fine lookin revolver. According to SCSW #4 serial number N400000 series was from 1977-1978. and serial number range N500000 was from 1978-1980.

That's about the best I can do right now, I'm sure the experts will be along shortly who can pin it doen even closer for you.

The value would be what you paid for it, unless you go t it for a song. Nice gun!

Very nice gun! I like it a lot, wish my 29-3 was a little older to be pinned and recessed like yours. Anyhow more information will be needed to establish value. Is the gun alone or did it come with box and any goodies? i.e. sat tool paperwork etc. ??

A 29 is a must for any S&W enthusiast and you have acquired one of the more desirable variations. The 29-2 is a fine revolver that you will be proud to own. You did well!

Nice gun. Congrats. You got it for a fair price. That's about the going rate for that gun around here. Actually the starting price around here.

That is a good price normally a P&R 6.5 in that condition would have an asking price of 1k in my neck of the woods but $800 is a realistic value. Congrats on the find now if you don't reload buy some Winchester white box 240g soft points and put through it. Then you can get the feel of why it was the most powerful handgun.

Congratulations on owning a very nice piece of S&W workmanship!
I enjoy my 29-2 quite a bit. Of late I have been enjoying shooting .44 Spl out of it more than the .44 Mag (getting old I guess).
I think you did well on the price.

Love the 29-2. Paid $700 for mine about a year ago

I am no expert, but would say you did fine! In a year or two, you will think you got a big bargain. I bought/won a 29-3, in November for $700. Super clean, but no box or extras.Traded into a 29-2, 4" nickel (1971) at April gun show. (trade was $700-$800 value) Gun was tagged $950. No box or extras. Boy does it shine! It is ported though. Have to get it to the range. Shoot & enjoy that nice 29! Hand loading is a big plus! Bob

A good fair price for a pinned and recessed 29-2 would start at about $1000 and go up based on things like condition, the presence of the case, papers, tools.

So if you paid less than $1000, you did great.

Specific Locations can fluctuate prices as well as some local economies are more inflated than others.

Just bought it and you ask what it's worth? You mean you bought it not knowing it's value?

I did just buy it, I am familiar with the the model 29 however I did not want my desire for a pinned & recessed revolver to make me over pay for this revolver.

There is some blue wear around the muzzle and on the end of the cylinder.

I wanted your opinion of what it is worth and the year it was made.

Thanks

Angelo

It happens alot

He knew enough to know that it was a good buy at $800 and he was right. I'm not a Colt collector. I don't know specifically what a 4" Diamondback is worth these days - BUT if I see an excellent condition one for $800 I'm certainly going to buy it.
