Just purchased my new S&W M&P 15-22 A1 on 2-3-13. Just have a few questions.

So this is my first online purchase of a gun of any sort. My question is, has anyone bought a gun from Discount Guns for Sale - Buds Gun Shop and how were the results? I've been tracking the shipping # and all seemed well up until about 2 days ago. It showed it shipped out of KY to IL then back to KY. I keep checking on the order but, it doesn't show any movement for the past 2 days. I would hope that Buds would contact me if there was something wrong, but haven't heard anything. Maybe I'm just being to worried. Those guns aren't cheap. One more question... I have a 500rd box of Remington cyclone high velocity hollow points. I'm having a hard time trying to find any .22 ammo. I heard that the M&P 15-22's book says not to use Remington ammo with it. Anyone know why?

As I understand it the make up of the metal Remington use isn't conducive to many round or rapid fire with barrel leading being a problem.

You may find differently.

wax tips?

I heard something about a wax coating in the tips that cause the gun to gum up or something like that.. not sure if its true.

I'm going to address the movement thing.

Bud's has been around a long time. I've never dealt with them but I've never heard anything really bad about them either.

If your gun is in the UPS delivery system, there are only about three things that can be going on to cause a delay.

1) It's lost. I doubt it and it's way too early to jump to that conclusion at this point.

2) A bad address and it's being returned to sender. I doubt this but it's possible.

3) It hit a legal hurdle somewhere it landed and someone thinks it's not allowed in OR. Possible? I don't know. You tell me.

There is another possibility. It's the weekend and UPS's tracking systems that we see as consumers can be pretty flaky at times. It's probably still "Coming at you" and the next receiving scan will correct the problem. That would be my bet on where you really are.

Be patient and watch it and give it a couple more (business) days before you panic too much.

My ffl received mine from buds here in GA in 3 days.

Just another data point for you. I would call buds on the possibility you got an anti gun activist/ups employee that sent it back. Half kidding...

Purchased my 15-22 from Buds & everything went smooth.

As I'm sure you know, you have to select your own FFL dealer to have the gun shipped to & then transferred to your possession. I wonder if the issue is with the FFL dealer? Did you choose one that was listed in green? They are Buds' preferred dealers and are pre-approved, otherwise it is up to you to contact the dealer & set up the delivery.

I chose a preferred dealer plus went ahead & contacted them anyway. Found out that dealer really did want my info ahead of time. He wanted Buds' order number & my contact info. My assumption was these gun shops have been stressed to the breaking point lately, what with all these purchases, so I wanted to limit the possibility of error.

I had a buddy tracking his AR and it sat in Jacksonville for a week. No one i sure why but I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that it's sitting in a big, long rifle box... Possibly not.

Also, with the recent weather, shipping could be impacted.

Also, with the recent weather, shipping could be impacted.

I was thinking the same thing too but KY & IL have not been hit real hard... as has the Northeast. Also, whenever there is a weather delay, UPS does not return the package to the shipper, they just sit on it until conditions improve. From my experience of shipping hundreds of packages per day with UPS, when a package is returned there is usually some issue with a bad address or someone refusing to accept.

If you have the tracking number, there should be some info online as far as what is going on, If not, you can call the toll free number & they will tell you what is happening.

As a side, if you don't know, to track a package you don't need to go onto UPS' or FedEx's website. All you need do is paste (type) the tracking number into Google. It knows that is a package & knows which company is the shipper.

Don't always rely on the tracking #'s to be accurate. I've bought and sold a lot on the internet. I've had stuff delivered that showed by the tracking #'s that it was still sitting somewhere else. Be patient. It will show.

Is the tracking now going in reverse or is it just going to another city? The weekend could be delaying the tracking and weather conditions could be factoring into it even if they are not directly in the path. Is it going ground? Not that it really matters but the guarantee on ground could be up to 8 days and sometimes they will take the full time to move it. If there was some comments it would tell you in the detailed progress.
I just saw you were in Oregon. That explains a whole lot. If it is ground it would go to a hub and get put on a truck and it would show a departure scan from there but it will not get another scan for at least 3 days. Does it give you an expected delivery date? I would not panic until that day because like I said it is on a truck and not being scanned for tracking and won't be until it hits your regional center. And, factor in a weekend and that is why you will see not a delay but the full 8 days of travel.

Bud's will take care of you, don't sweat it. If there is a problem, better it gets worked out on their end and you wait a couple more days.

Remington's should shoot just fine out of your rifle. I think you will find that it's eat everything without much trouble.

Former UPS supervisor here. It sounds like it may have had a bad address or some idiot read the return address instead of the deliver to address and sorted it into the wrong load. Either way it will get to you eventually. They have a large hub in IL (CACHE) where stuff is usually put into trailers that are loaded onto railroad flat cars for movement east or west. It is also possible that it was scanned as going back to KY, but was actually loaded correctly.

It could have been damages as well I have had stuff damaged at a terminal and returned the sender vesus sending it on.

I'm shooting Remington Golden Bullets, no problems. The manual says they don't recommend them because they "do not perform consistently or reliably". That has not been my experience so far. They also discourage Remington Target 22 and Thunderbolt ammo.

I too have just purchased a gun from Buds Gun Shop on-line for the first time as I could not find the pistol localy

It is a Ruger Vaquero SA 45LC 5 1/2" Stainless with 45ACP Cylinder.....

Even threw the Storm we had on the East Coast this past weekend it should be delivered to my FFL on Monday....now if I can remove the snow from infront of my door by then I should be able to pick it up...unless of course they sent me the wrong gun(my biggest fear)

I also have seen the tracking number making a strange route on the way to my FFL from KY to ME

The wait is killing me (like a kid before Xmas) but still my purchase was marked with the turtle and delivery time will be only 4 days from final payment(I had it on their layway plan)will update it when it comes in.

On a side note it took Ruger 22 days to ship the Spanish wood grips to me...

Thanks for all the info. I did choose a preferred FFL and even went to the place to check it out. I do have the UPS tracking #. The UPS site says the same thing that the buds website says. I guess i will just sit and wait for any info. Thanks guys.

Just think of the extra waiting as "foreplay" to help make the shooting experience more enjoyable! As for ammo; there are a lot of opinions about what a 15-22 will or won't eat and generally S&W's instructions are sound about the matter. Mine is usually very happy with CCI Tactical-22 but has also run happy with almost anything (including tracers) that I stick in the magazines. Stuff that my grandkid's .22 autopistols won't shoot (Winchester White Box, Federal Gold Bullet) do just fine through the reliable 15-22. Just keep the darn thing clean and give the right places some Frog Lube and it will work like a charm. Hang in there, the wait will be worth it!
