I just found this 629-1 with an 8-3/8" barrel at the local gun shop and I couldn't pass it up! The serial number is AWV0xxx, so I'm not sure when this was made.

It will make a nice companion to my 3" 629-2 that I've had for several years. The serial number on this baby is BED5xxx and I'm not sure when this one was made either. I didn't get a box or papers with either one…

Most likely your M29-1 was made in 1987 or 1988. Couldn't find specifically the AWV prefix, but AWP, AWT, AWU, AWW, and AWY were all 1987.

BED I found, that's a 1989 gun.

What's a 629-1 going for these days if you don't mind?

They were asking $1195.00 for this one. It was on consignment, so I asked if they would call the owner and see if he would deal any…I ended up getting it for $1075.00. I'm not sure if that was a super great deal, as there was no box or papers, but I was happy with it.

I just took the grips off and they were marked with a date of June 13th, 1987.

Very nice gun , and I applaud your honesty on the price you paid many would try to hedge a little to appear as a savvy dealer
I was just looking at a near identical gun but a "no dash" a couple weeks ago online , I hummed and hawed too long . It sold in a week
the asking price was 1200

The 629 is admittedly my favorite Smith. I think you paid a fair price for it. New models, which I consider inferior, are priced about the same or higher. I think I'm up to five three inch variants of the 629 now.

Beautiful six gun
The early dashes are my favorites, really don't care for the case hardened hammers and triggers.
I have a full set of dash ones.
I know you'll enjoy yours
