Just wanting to know what I have. Please help!

I don't know what you have invested in the gun by way of the trade, but in my opinion you would hard pressed to sell it in its current condition for $300. As others have suggested, I would definitely shoot it before I invested any money in a refinish. And regardless of the refinish, the problems with the faint trademark and the rounded sideplate will remain. Your gun, your call, but I would not spend $400 to improve the appearance. Might not be worth $400 when you are done.

Hard chrome is a good finish and I like it better than Cerakote. Any finish will scratch.

If your pre md 15 shoots like all the others you will be thrilled with this gun. My advice is not to put any more money into it but to shoot and enjoy it....as is. Actually, I'd like to have a few S&W "rat" guns for hiking and fishing and not have to worry about dings and scratches. Heck, if it fell into the lake and was gone forever, no big deal. We all love our beautiful, pristine S&W revolvers, but there's something to be said about having one that when we scratch it or drop it.....no big deal.

Save you refinish money for something you will be really proud to own.

Without reading other replies.

You have a mid 1950s' post war K-38 Combat Masterpiece.

4 in. K frame 38 Special Cartridge.

It has been poorly re finished along with hammer and trigger being nickel plated.

The gaps where the side plate and frame have been
polished separately are particularly indicative of a cheap job.

If it shoots well therein lies any value.

About $100. in my book.

Good luck

Allen
