Ok, it was a good, if short, "event", but...
They introduced the Shield Plus; looks like a double-stack Shield untill I went to the web site where the closest thing to the Plus appears to be listed as the 'M&P M2.0 Subcompact'. Unless, they haven't even listed it yet...

Having spent several years in product management, I'm struggling to figure out what's going on. How do you do a presumably significant new product announcement, then either not list it on your website, or list it under a different name.

I need to go lay down...

Sooo... All they announced was their little "M&P365 Shieldcat Me-too-point-oh" during the Virtual Event?

Because if so, that's pretty weak. I expected at least a bit more news than that.

Sure, that's great for all the hold-outs who specifically wanted a Smith & Wesson branded variant of a pistol which has been on the market for years now, but for those of us who weren't, it's just...nothing.

Am intrigued. Looking forward to more details. Disappointing the link above didn't have any specs to compare to the Shield or SIG 365 or hellcat

...and the Ruger Max-9.

Just fancy, glitzy website graphics with little substance.

The Firearm Blog has a good comparison video of the Shield vs Shield Plus.
The are virtually the same size and the only major difference besides the magazine capacity (new mags made by Mec-gar) is the change to an almost flat trigger shoe with about a 1 pound less trigger pull.

It makes sense for them. S&W still has a large number of brand loyal costumers who will snag this up. For most of the less casual gun buying community it's an also ran as of now, but to those loyal customers it's an offering that can bring them up to the level of product they could get from Glock or Sig (assuming S&W can do the manufacturing and quality control right).

Any word on whether the new magazines are compatible with old Shields?

I presume they're not, but might as well ask.

I don't like pistols with a swinging dingus in the trigger....I'll stick with my regular Shields. If i want to go HI-CAP i can use my old Browning P35.

For those fellers that THRIVE on high capacity plstols. By you a glock with a 33 round magazine.

I'd rather have a swinging dingus in my trigger than their hinged trigger they have now. But overall its lame, not in the same size class as the P365 and Hellcat. The new Ruger looks a lot better and will certainly be cheaper. S&W needs to see how Ruger handles product releases, they do a hell of a lot better.

So what is the difference between the M&P 2.0 subcompact and the Shield Plus????
NONE of these firearms (the Hellcat, P365, etc) are what I call small pocket autos. I like them, I own some but what I default to for carry purposes is an M&P380 (or when I'm wearing my seersucker suit the NAA .22).
They shine as desk/car/boat guns-but for me-not personal everyday carry

Probably a needed offering so S&W can keep up with Sig, Ruger, SA, and other names that I am missing. Owning two P365's, I have absolutely no interest in this firearm.

Thanks, I'll stick with my 9c and 40c.

This will be for S&W fans primarily. The Ruger is less expensive and comes with more features from the factory.

Swing and a miss S&W

So they expect me to take on 14 Al Queda terrorists in a dark alley with no Picatinny/light rail...
AND no slide-mounted optic?
