Any of y'all ever buy a gun, and later wonder why? I bought a hipoint pistol in 45acp, it's decent but honestly I don't really know why I bought it now. I don't own any other gun in 45, I didn't really need a gun in 45. I suppose it'll be a decent home defense gun since it's so cheap. Just wondering if y'all have some similar stories to share.

Yes somewhat. I'm more of .....a gun has to fit a purpose...guy. I'll read up on why X is better than Y even if both are in the same class or from the same manufacturer. It will make sense because I have a X or Y and I can see what the author means by its better/worse but then I'll have to go and buy it to prove it to myself and then I wonder.....I read it, I agreed, why did I spend the money on something i already knew.

For example Glock 19 & 26. The 19 is a compact and 26 a sub compact. I have the 19 and love the 19. I KNOW that I'll need a base plate extension on the 26, which will make it as long a grip as the 19 (which I already own). Slide length is almost no difference. So essentially I'll buy a 26 and make it a 19. Stupid right? Guess what I did?!?!?!?

Another thing I don't like doing is thinking with guns. If I'm buying it it's because it has everything I want in that specific model. Whether it's night sights or ambidextrous safety or whatever. The only exception is if the gun happens to be dirt cheap. So I'll buy it and never touch it cause it's not set up the way I want it and I hate sinking money into guns if it doesn't involve mags or ammo

I've never been able to afford a lot of guns. Never bought one I didn't think, after considering its pros and cons, would be a useful tool to own. I also tend to read up on them before making a purchase, but sometimes have just seen one and thought, "Wow, I can use that beauty!"

I've been disappointed a few times. Bought a Kel-Tec P32 which worked just fine, but it didn't fit me and I couldn't hit some ZIP codes with it. I also bought a Mossberg 500 twelve gauge pump--perfectly good shotgun, very well respected as a good value for the money. I was confident I could use it for home defense and for hunting. But I've always been a side-by-side double gun man. Double triggers, extractors only. The Mossberg just wasn't right for me, and I sold it.

Yes. A Hipoint carbine was among them.
Sometimes impulse and or ignorance get in the way of me making a sound decision. I sell the stuff and move on, but usually loose money in the process.

Simple--nope.

On your last bit on here, I fell into the state of its too cheap to pass up. I spent 125 for the hipoint brand new, when I've seen them going for 30 more elsewhere.

I think I might hang on to the hipoint, it'll be my black sheep in my fold.

About 15 years ago I traded a beat up 4" 66-1 and $200 for this .45. Just had to have it. Love it. I fired 100 rds through the weekend I got it. Bought 3 more new mags for it. Haven't fired it but the once. !?! Joe
That reminds me of the guy I bought my iwi jericho from. He fired a box of 50 though it, changed the grips, and bought 5 more mags for it. Never shot it again.

I'm well past the point of "needing" another gun. So I can't use that excuse.
I have bought guns for a number of frivolous reasons:
Impulse
The price was too cheap to pass up.
I didn't have one of those.
Just tryin' sumthin' different.
I liked it.
etc and so on.

And at some point, I often ask myself why did I buy that?
Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time and that works for me. ;)

Alex, I see you have been around as a member bout 3 months now.

I think that's about how long I was here before I realized some of those inexplicable gun purchases I have made, certainly were NOT going to alienate me with this crowd; and in fact, I would more likely be welcomed into the fold by many.

I don't care for a nickle plated firearm. I think the nickle finish is very attractive, but not practical for anything but a museum piece. Given that, about 10 yrs. ago I was getting out of my pickup in the parking lot of one of the larger gun shows here in LV. A older couple were huddled up at the car next to me and it seemed that they were having a heated conversation. I heard 'him' say, "No this is your deal, you carry it." She said, "You are just being mean." I saw that they were talking about a handgun in a cardboard slip covered box. I asked if they were taking their gun inside to sell? The lady brightened up and said, "Yes, I can't stand guns in the house and won't abide one. We have to sell this." I asked to look at it and was less than impressed by a nib S&W M 34-1, 22LR nickle plated. The Lady quickly confirmed that it had never been fired. At that time of my life I really wasn't a 'gun collector'. I almost reluctantly asked what they had to have for it. The Lady offered it up for far less that I was sure was the purchase price. The poor old guy just looked miserable, but beaten down. I gave her what she wanted. I still have the darn thing and it has appreciated so much that I'm almost afraid to take it out of the safe. ......

But, true to the premise of this thread, I have taken it out to go shoot it and then wondered why in the world I bought it in the first place. Of course, I have never fired it either. I am not sure that the occasional handgun doesn't get thru the manufacturing process without being test fired by S&W, but this one sure looks that way. .......

Bought a Ruger 44 carbine(old style ) in 2014 because I'd owned one in the late 60's and (Thought?) I wanted another one...After having it a couple of years and only shooting it once or twice....I sold it for a tidy profit and bought something I REALLY wanted.........

As a milsurp collector I would say that I have done this quite a bit.

I bought an old Kel Tec P11

....it's not a BAD gun and it's very light for carry, but I bought it as a stopgap measure until I could afford something like a Shield. It often stays home when I go to the range. I only practice to be able to shoot it effectively if I were in a tight spot. They started out making affordable but reliable guns that epitomizes the 'plastic' gun.

I got one of the subgen 2000 9mm carbines and the thing is NEAT and a lot of fun and feels really well built. I had picked up a Hi Point carbine and and it didn't feel right at all.

PS: "Black Sheep". The P 11 will fill that role in my collection.

PPS. I think that the new machining methods has made 'cheap' pistols better and quality pistols that need hand fitting harder to produce.

Why did I buy not one, but 2 Taurus revolvers? (not at the same time)
First one was a 4" Tracker, bought because I didn't have a 4" S&W K-frame and I had a bunch of Cabela's Bucks. Traded it toward a little Browning BL-22 lever action after I got a Model 19.
2nd one is I think a Model 85, little 2", small frame. Got it really cheap because I claimed it when the pawn expired on it in my shop. Needed a small cheapie to stash in my Mini Cooper's mini glove box so for now it is there.

I do it more often than I think. I recently got a nice 3913 and don't know why I did. There is nothing wrong with the gun and feels great in the hand but I prefer M&P pistols and Glocks,as it is easier for the wife to operate without having to worry about extra moving parts. I try to get guns that we both can use but every so often...

I get exactly what you're saying. I really enjoy taking my lady shooting with me and like you said most of my guns we can both function easily.. then I look at a few of my recent purchases and they're big bulky and steel framed... not exactly what she says is fun to shoot.

Pretty much every rifle I buy ends up not getting shot. Bought an M&P a couple years ago, spent a bunch of money upgrading it to exactly how I want, put about 1k rounds through it, and have shot it 7 times since then. 5 to check the zero then shot 2 deer with it last year. Bought a Swiss K31 because I always head about how accurate they were, never shot it. After seeing how bad a job a .223 did at killing deer bought a Tikka T3 30.06 to hunt with, haven't even mounted the scope on it because I used a handgun to hunt with this year and I'm planning on buying a Model 29 to use next year.

At work we were talking about how apparently you can't kill a deer with a handgun, but you can when you can with a bow. So I said something about how I can shoot a revolver better at 50 yards than I can with a rifle and I got to thinking, that's probably right. I haven't practiced with a rifle (other than making sure I can still hit something with it at 50 yards) in probably 3-4 years.

Yes I have. About 6 months ago, on a whim, I purchased a very nice Sig P 226. It was everything the seller advertised. But haven't had it out of the carrying case for a total of 60 minutes yet. I have no idea why I bought it, and no desire to shoot it. Oh-well I'll do something with it one of these days.

.

I guess I can relate to that one. I have a Ruger M77 in 3006 that I bought for hunting several years ago. I have zeroed the rifle but haven't had time to hunt

I just answered my own question. Now the only kahr I've held was the mk9 and I could barely work the slide release without killing my hands how does the slide feel on yours?

I bought a Ruger PC9 carbine last year..Have never shot it. May sell it because I found out they are kind of a cult gun now(discontinued). Never could figure why I bought it...and last weekend I bought a Taurus double action gun in 32 H&R mag...Pretty little gun and don't know why I bought it I even have ammo??
