Justice does prevail, even in Chicago

I started working for NCR in Apr. '68. They had 5 service offices in the Chicago area with the main office on Michigan Ave.. The day I reported for duty the MLK riots started as I sat filling out new hire paperwork in the Oak Park office just west of riots. Guys were coming in with windshields broken and stories of gangs stopping company vehicles. For months after we took service calls in bad areas with one guy double parked in the street idling, the other guy inside working on equipment. The Chicago Police Dept. has a bad rep. that's constantly being knocked by the liberal news. They've helped me outta some bad areas a couple of times. Some officers even telling me I'm crazy for not going armed. Chicago Police for the most part hate Daley 2, which makes them AOK in my book.

The Chicago Police Dept. has a bad rep. that's constantly being knocked by the liberal news.
And it's frequently hard earned.

The other cop who committed a similar crime in a suburban bar (Callahan, who was found passed out drunk, on top of his firearm, in some bushes), and the members of the home invasion ring (one of whom tried to put a contract out on some of the others AFTER being arrested) operating for years inside the CPD haven't even gone to trial yet.

There's no discipline mechanism worthy of the name in the Chicago Police Department, and that's exactly the way Daley wants it. EVERYTHING is TOTALLY capricious and based on "clout" (as apparently was the initial hiring, CONTRARY TO DEPARTMENT POLICY of Anthony Abbate in the first place). Daley no more benefits from normal standards of justice and order than Robert Mugabe.

Some guys just don't learn:

"A former Chicago police officer convicted of a bar beating seen around the world violated his probation by failing a drug test last month, Cook County prosecutors alleged Friday.

Anthony Abbate, 41, tested positive last month for opiates, prosecutors said. Circuit Judge Arthur Hill Jr. set a hearing on the allegations for March 12. Prosecutors could seek to have him imprisoned for up to five years if the judge finds he violated his probation.

Abbate, who was ordered to come to court Friday, was taken into custody on a $40,000 bail, but he was quickly released after his father posted bond, according to court records and his attorney, Peter Hickey III. Hickey declined to comment on the alleged violation.

The burly Abbate was convicted in June of aggravated battery for the 2007 off-duty beating of Karolina Obrycka, a bartender at Jesse's Short Stop Inn. The attack was caught on video and circulated on the Internet.

In a controversial decision by Circuit Judge John Fleming, Abbate was spared prison and sentenced to two years of probation. The judge also ordered treatment for alcohol abuse and counseling for anger management. The case is now before Hill because Fleming transferred to another assignment.

Jesus Reyes, acting head of the Cook County Adult Probation Department, said test results do not specify the type of opiate for which Abbate tested positive, but the test screens for opium, heroin, morphine, codeine and a number of medications.

Abbate has previously denied substance-abuse problems, according to court records.

Last month, Abbate filed a lawsuit challenging his firing by the Chicago Police Board a month earlier. A suit by Obrycka is pending in federal court." - Chicago Tribune reporter Matt Walberg

Thats fine, but I heard another OD cop was watching. Anything about him?

-maybe she has a bunch of brothers or some such and will meet up with this pos in the near future. he should work for the mexican drug cartels, he would fit right in.

He got probation and community service. I feel the judge dropped the ball on that aspect.

Brian~

yes .. the trend of not locking up blatantly errant LEO's sucks on many levels.
there is a profound breach of trust on the part of an officer who engages in such things. We expect thugs to do these things, not cops. so when it does happen theres a deeper moral violation in it.
