I stopped by my LGS this morning as they were putting a nice shooter grade K-22 out for sale.

I could see it was fitted with some special features and after a little haggling I brought it home.

This K-22 circa 1955 is fitted with a Target Hammer, Red Post front sight, White Outlined rear sight and a pair of very unusual non-relieved Target Stocks.

On further inspection I found a serial number 80487 circa 1949 inside the stocks.

These early stocks have a "coke bottle" profile and remind me of some of the Roper stocks I've seen.

Very nice to find. That gun is screaming out for a letter. Looks like maybe a bright blue finish. Does it have a large B by serial under barrel flat? That combination of sights sure is nice for some good shooting. Those grips are absolutely beautiful and have all the signs of being Ropers. The best part is the çondition is in that sweet spot zone for shooting (nice but not too nice to shoot). Enjoy

Yes congratulations, very good eye. These are similar to other early "prototype" target stocks circa 1951-52 I've seen on the forum. Doc44/Bills early Model 1950 Target with prototype target stocks rings a bell.

Also, the shape of the checkering is similar to the rare grip adaptor target stocks which were offered briefly (only 4-5 sets I've seen here). Below is a K-Frame set I sold awhile back.

Those grips are VERY similar to the grips on the .357 Magnum Transitional that was described and pictured in this thread: Mr. E. F. Warner's 8.5 Inch Post War .357 Magnum Transitional Revolver

See especially KB's posts 22 & 24 in the above thread.

I could not agree more. The Warner Transitional stocks and Leo' stocks above appear to me to be carved and checkered by the same hand. Fun to know that both sets are currently here in the AZ... :)

Congrats Leo on the acquisition of a very fun K-22 Masterpiece. And thanks for sharing with the rest of us.

It sure would be nice to know exactly what gun those serial number 80487 stocks were originally on, and who that gun was shipped to.

I think Roy or Don could help out there......I'm with you.

I could see it was fitted with some special features and after a little haggling I brought it home.

That haggling I'd sure like to hear about that.
your definitely a stronger man than I
