So here is one of my K-38 Masterpiece revolvers that I have not shown before. It is a narrow rib version that shipped in April, 1949, and in 98% condition. Stocks number to the gun.

With it on the bench is a box of Monark Mid-Range wadcutters that I picked up at the gun show this last weekend. The box has been opened but remains full. For $15 I could not leave it behind.

If someone knows older Federal cartridges and boxes, I'd like to know the period during which these cartridges were made and sold in this type box.

Thanks.

Are those wadcutters seated nearly flush with the cartridge mouth, like those used in the Model 52? I only ask out of curiosity for the term "Mid-Range" that is used with those flush mounted I have from Winchester-Western.

Are those wadcutters seated nearly flush with the cartridge mouth . . . ?

Yes, they are. Over the years, I have fired hundreds (perhaps thousands) of 148 gr. mid-range loads from Remington, W-W and Federal, as well as handloads. As I recall, the vast majority of them were flush mounted. I believe that, way back when, I had some W-W that were mounted with exposed bullet lead out of the front of the case, but I cannot be sure of that.

When I handload the 148 WC, I seat them flush with the case mouth.

My 148 gr wadcutter loads are seated slightly below flush with a very small crimp over the top.

I have the identical revolver shipped in May of 1949 to Sacramento, Calif. It remains NIB, and will stay that way. Not sure what ammo is period correct. I also collect period ammo for most of my guns, and have not researched this one out. As this is a target gun, period match ammo would be my choice. Big Larry
