Was at the local gunshow today walking the over crowded isles when I spotted a man with an old pouch tucked up under his arm. As he was making his way past me I could see the pouch was unzipped and I could see some nice looking walnut grips protruding out.
I asked what he had and he said it was a S&W 38. I asked what model and he said he did not know , only that it was a 38. I asked to look at it and when he pulled it out and handed it to me there was a really nice k-38 sporting Sanderson target grips and a trigger shoe. It had dry oil caked all over it but I could tell it was nice.
He said it was his uncles gun and he had inherited it. I asked how much and he said $400. I gladly paid the man his asking price.
It has a serial# K1388xx. I think this puts it at or around 1952. It is super clean and I am super stoked to have found it.
I also picked up a early model 29 no dash that was wearing goodyears. I put some nice coke's on it and put it in a thread of its own.

Great Find! This proves it pays to go to the shows. All my best, Joe.

I have been fortunate at the shows a few times in the last year or so. I agree it is good to check the shows out from time to time. There has been a lot of nice s&w's showing up lately.

Wow, those Sandersons have some great patterns in it. I would be proud to own them. Guns not to bad either .:D

First set of Sandersons I have owned. I was really pleased to find the gun. It has a great 50's target feel to it with the grips and the trigger shoe. I think I will leave it just the way I found it.

Man, o man those Sandersons have some nice grain! You ever get tired of them and/or the K-38 let me know! :)

really pretty grips and not a bad k-38 either. you got a great deal on the package.

I too would not change a thing on that fine .38... I and many of us would be most pleased to have suffered as you have recently... Kyle

It just goes to prove: don't be shy about asking! For me, it hasn't worked out well as I always seem to ask the person that values what they have at XXX times what current market is, but I hope to someday score like you. Congrats!

I am pretty good about asking on the guns I cant see that are in boxes or cases. Sometimes you can see instantly that it is in a factory box and is a gun that may or may not be of interest. The ones that arent very obvious are good ones to ask about , and still only find a gem at a nice price once in a great while. I hope your gunshow score comes very soon. A lot of the fun in this hobby is the hunt.
Good Luck out there ,

Beautiful grain in those stocks!!! I love the package.:)

Thank you!
I am very pleased with this purchase. I wish all my purchases in life would feel as good as this one did. Sure has a neat 50's feel to it. Such quality.
