I need to replace a K Frame cylinder stop. The only factory part I can find is the MIM cylinder stop from Brownells. Has anyone used this part on a pre-1980 K frame with success? Anybody know of a source for the older cylinder stops.

Armorer951 is correct, weather you use a mim or steel cylinder stop, it will have to be fit to your revolver. If you haven't been trained as an armorer, I strongly suggest you have an experienced Smith revolver armorer or Gunsmith install the new part. There's always a 1,000,000 to 1 chance that a replacement will fit right in but not likely.

Just as a follow-up. Jack First ended up having new factory cylinder stops that are the older forged variety. I fit it this morning, and it is working perfectly. Thank you for the responses. Judge, I wish I had waited a few days longer. You have a good price on those. I will contact you if/when I need another. Do you sell other new original parts for revolvers made in 1980 or earlier?

While the MIM should work, I would personally install an original one that is period correct. Even if a slight bit more difficult to find they are out there if you look.

I have replaced a fair amount of worn out gun parts over the years and have ALWAYS used original S&W parts from the same era. Sometimes they are a bit challenging to find (and or a bit pricey) but parts for those era guns were made for MANY MNAY years!
